Lackman Records 150th Career Win, Golden Wolves Sweep at King’s College

Wilkes-Barre, Pa (December 14, 2024) - Alvernia University took down New Jersey City University and Sussex CC in two men's wrestling duals Saturday at King's College.

King's College hosted New Jersey City, Sussex, Keystone and Alvernia for dual style matches with each team wrestling two matches. The Golden Wolves took down NJCU in their first dual 39-12 and then recorded a 51-6 victory over Sussex to secure the sweep.

Alvernia senior, Matthew Lackman recorded his 150th career victory with a pin in the match against Sussex. Lackman becomes the first Alvernia Men's Wrestler to reach the 150 wins mark.

Match 1: NJCU: 12, ALV: 37
How it Happened
  • NJCU jumped out to an early 12-0 lead after receiving a forfeit at the 125 pound match and then recorded back to back victories by decision at 133 and 141 pounds to take the lead.
  • Those would be the last points the Gothic Knights would score as the Golden Wolves recorded seven straight victories to secure the victory. Quinn Tobin started things off with a 17-4 major decision over Zack Vera at 149 pounds and then Chance Babb recorded a 19-3 tech fall in the 157 pound match to make it 12-9 NJCU.
  • Matthew Lackman would record a fall in the 165 pound match in 2:12 over Fabian Acuna to give the Golden Wolves a 15-12 lead.

The Golden Wolves were assessed unsportsmanlike penalties in the 133 pound bout and the 149 pound match to dock the Golden Wolves from 39 to 37 overall team points.

Match 2: Sussex: 6, ALV: 51
How it Happened
  • Alvernia would forfeit the 125 pound match again to give Sussex the early 6-0 lead but the Golden Wolves would then rip off six pins in the next seven bouts en route to the victory.
