Lackman, Kassis Lead Golden Wolves at Wilkes Open

Wilkes-Barre, Pa (December 20, 2024) - Alvernia University's Nathan Lackman took home the 174 pound title and Isaac Kassis took second in the 197 pound bracket to lead the Golden Wolves at the 91st Wilkes Open Friday at Wilkes. 

Nathan Lackman took home first place honors in the 174 pound weight class and Isaac Kassis took second in the 197 pound weight class. Owen Reber and Keito Shaw both took fourth in their respective weight classes and Hayden McLellan recorded a fifth place finish at 184 pounds. 

How it Happened
  • Nathan Lackman recorded a first place finish and tallied a 4-0 record on the day. Lackman received a first round bye in the 174 pound weight class and then recorded a 12-3 decision over Saint Vincent's Carlie Mesich and then posted a 22-7 tech fall over Jayden Curley to advance to the semifinals. Lackman then took down Victor Marks-Jenkins in the semifinal bout by major decision, 14-3 to head to the final. Lackman then took down Sam Beckett from Penn State by decision, 4-2, to secure the 174 pound title. 
  • Isaac Kassis wrestled in the 197 pound weight class for the Golden Wolves and posted a second place finish and a 3-1 record on the day. Kassis recorded an 11-1 major decision over Gunnar pool from Appalachian State and then recorded a 4-1 decision over David Bertrand to advance to the quarterfinals. Kassis faced off against Spencer Fetrow from Roger Williams and took down Williams by major decision, 18-8 to head to the semifinals. Kassis then fell to Carson Floyd from Appalachian State by tech fall, 15-0, in the final to take second. 
  • Keito Shaw tallied a 2-2 record on the day and finished in fourth place in the 125 pound bracket. Shaw started his day with a 15-0 tech fall over Rocky Finnegan from Wilkes and then recorded a 10-4 decision over Joseph Deangelo to advance to the semifinal. Shaw then fell to Appalachian State's Bryson Terrell by fall to drop to the third place match. Shaw then fell to Colby McBride from App State by decision, 4-2, to finish in fourth place. 
  • Owen Reber competed in the 285 pound bracket for Alvernia and recorded a … place finish on the day. Reber tallied a victory by fall over Christo Marion in 2:35 and then fell to Levi Andrews from Appalachian State by fall in 4:01 to drop to the third place match. Reber fell in the third place match to Caleb Burkhart from Wilkes by fall to take fourth place. 
  • Hayden McLellan recorded a 4-1 record on the day and tallied a fifth place finish. McLellan dropped his first match of the day in the 184 pound weight class by fall against Logan Eller. McLellan then bounced back with a pin over Devin Doty from Wilkes and a 18-3 tech fall over Souleymane Diarra. McLellan followed those two wins with a victory by fall over Mark Ayala in 5:48 to advance to the fifth place match. McLellan then received a medical forfeit to secure fifth place. 
  • Matthew Lackman started his day with back to back tech falls in his first two matches with a 15-0 tech fall over Matt Lucas and then another 15-0 tech fall over Eddries Nezam from Marymount. Lackman then fell to Sean Seefeldt by decision, 4-1 and then dropped another 4-1 decision to Bryce Griffin from Davidson.
