Golden Wolves Blow Past Ursinus, 39-12

Collegeville, Pa (February 17, 2024) - Alvernia University (21-3) used five technical falls to defeat Ursinus College 39-12 Saturday night in a men's wrestling dual at Ursinus. 

How it Happened 
  • Keito Shaw got things started for Alvernia with a 17-2 tech fall over Perez from Ursinus in the 125 lbs match. 
  • Anthony Portillo followed Shaw with a 11-3 major decision over Teti from at 133 lbs to extend the Alvernia lead to 9-0 after two bouts. 
  • Avery Leonard and Quinn Tobin kept the train rolling for the Golden Wolves with back to back tech falls at 141 and 149 lbs. Leonard took down Sheiner 18-1 and Tobin defeated Kmak 15-0 in the 149 lbs bout and made it 19-0 Alvernia. 
  • Jason Rezac continued to add to the tech fall count with a 16-1 tech fall over Parnis to push the lead to 24-0. 
  • Matthew Lackman tallied the fifth tech fall of the night for the Golden Wolves with a 16-1 tech fall over Marchesano from Ursinus in the 165 lbs bout which made it 29-0 Golden Wolves. 
  • Ursinus got on the board in the 174 lbs bout with a fall from Cerulli over Ryan LePore to grab six points. 
  • The Golden Wolves bounced back when James Circle recorded a 12-3 major decision victory over Gross at 184 pounds to make it 33-6 Alvernia. 
  • Isaac Kassis received a victory by forfeit at 197 lbs to add six more to the lead, 39-6. 
  • Jake Ahmad from Ursinus tallied the final points of the night with a fall over Alvernia's Aiden Homan in the 285 lbs bout to secure six more points, 39-12. 
  • Ethan Staples and Aiden Swann both recorded wins in their respective exhibition matches with Staples notching a close, 10-9 decision and Swann recorded a pin in 3:48. 

Up Next 
  • The Golden Wolves wrapped up their regular season matches with the victory and now look toward the NCAA Southeast Regionals on March 1st and 2nd. The Regionals are hosted by Lycoming.
