Alvernia Falls to Immaculata, 12-3

Immaculata, Pa (February 28, 2024) - Immaculata University (2-1) used a strong first half to secure the 12-3 victory over Alvernia University (1-1) in a non-conference men's lacrosse matchup Wednesday afternoon at Immaculata. 

The Mighty Macs jumped out to a 6-2 lead after the first 30 minutes of play and added four more in the third stanza to take a 10-2 lead after three. Immaculata tallied two more in the fourth quarter to secure the 12-3 victory over the Golden Wolves. 

How it Happened 
  • Immaculata jumped out to an early three goal lead in the first four minutes of the contest after Connor Tears, Ben Wesolowski and Ryan Gorman all scored goals. 
  • Kyle Patton got the Golden Wolves on the board with under seven to play in the first quarter. After weaving his way through the Mighty Mac defense, Patton fired the ball past the Immaculata goalie to cut the deficit to two, 3-1. 
  • Immaculata netted one more goal in the quarter when Nicholas DeFilippo found the back of the net to make it 4-1 after the first 15 minutes of play. 
  • The Mighty Macs extended their lead to five after a man-up goal in the first five minutes of the second quarter and another goal in the final two minutes to make it a 6-1 game. 
  • The Golden Wolves grabbed one back in the final seconds of the half when Kenny Howley connected with Peter Capasso with one second left in the half to make it 6-2 heading into the half. 
  • Immaculata tallied two goals in the span of a minute around the four minute mark to extend the lead to six, 8-2 with just over ten minutes to go in the third quarter. 
  • The Macs scored two more in the final six minutes of the third to take a 10-2 lead into the fourth quarter. 
  • Immaculata made it 11-2 just over five minutes into the final stanza but Alvernia's Capasso answered by ripping a shot into the top corner of the goal to make it 11-3. 
  • Immaculata netted one last goal in the final five minutes of the game to take the 12-3 victory. 

Inside the Box Score
  • Peter Capasso led the Golden Wolves with two goals, he added two more shots on goal and finished with three ground balls. 
  • Kyle Patton tallied the other goal for Alvernia and Jack Kenney led the Golden Wolves with 12 ground balls and went 12-15 on the faceoff. 
  • Dane Sabarese recorded 12 saves in net for Alvernia.
