Williamsport, Pa (March 1, 2024) - Four Golden Wolves wrestled their way into semifinal bouts for Alvernia University on day one of the NCAA men's wrestling Southeast Regional Friday at Lycoming. 

Keito Shaw, Avery Leonard, Jason Rezac and Matthew Lackman all went 3-0 on Friday to secure their spots in the semifinals tomorrow. Mauro Pellot-Vazquez dropped his quarterfinal match due to injury but bounced back to secure a place in the Consolation Quarterfinals. 

How it Happened 

• Keito Shaw (125 lbs.) started his day with an 8-2 decision over York's Jacob Kresicki and then took down Anakin Burks of Shenandoah by major decision, 20-10 in the second round to punch his ticket to the quarterfinals. Shaw then grinded out a close, 5-2 decision over Lycoming's Kaden Majcher to book a spot in the 125 pound semi final vs. Mason Barrett from Averett. 
• Avery Leonard (141 lbs.) recorded back to back tech falls in the first two rounds of the regional to move into the quarterfinals. Leonard took down Hunter Swedish from Washington and Jefferson, 16-0 and Cooper Gilham from Lycoming by a score of 18-2. Leonard then faced off against Nico Diaz from Stevens and pulled out the close, 6-4 decision over Diaz to secure a spot in the semi final tomorrow. Leonard will take on Messiah's Josiah Gehr in the semi. 
• Jason Rezac (157 lbs.) was the third Golden Wolf to book a spot in the semi finals, after a first round bye, Rezac downed Ethan Kring (Greensboro) by fall in 2:02 and then tallied another fall in the quarterfinals over DeLorenzo from Del Val to move onto the semi finals tomorrow. Rezac will take on Ryan Smith from Stevens for a shot at the 157 pound title. 
• Matthew Lackman (165 lbs.) was the last Alvernia wrestler to go 3-0 on Friday. After a first round bye, Lackman tech falled Justice Hockenberry-Folk from York by a score of 19-4 and then backed that up with another tech fall in the quarterfinal over Chase Brandebura from St. Vincent, 15-0 to book his spot in the 165 pound semi final bout. 
• Mauro Pellot-Vazquez (197 lbs.) was the final Alvernia wrestler to move on to the second day of the regional. Pellot-Vazquez tallied a fall over Weston Memmott from Southern Virginia in his first match and then defeated Dakota McDermott from St. Vincent by tech fall, 20-4 to advance to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, Pellot-Vazquez dropped the match by injury default to fall to round four of the consolation bracket, where he pinned Christian McChesney from Washington and Jefferson in 2:06 to book a spot in the consolation quarterfinals tomorrow. 

Of Note 

• Alvernia stands in seventh place in the overall team score with a total of 63.5 points. 
• Stevens leads the team race with 98 points, Roanoke College is in second with 96 and Delaware Valley is in third with 91.
