Alvernia Edges King’s, 7-5

Reading, Pa (March 16, 2024) - Alvernia University (2-3) used three goals in the second half to take down King's College (1-3) 7-5, in a non-conference men's lacrosse matchup Saturday afternoon at Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves led by two, 4-2, at the half and fended off three fourth quarter goals by the Monarchs to secure the 7-5 victory.

How it Happened
  • A quiet first quarter was highlighted by Ethan McManus scoring a goal with just over ten minutes to go in the first thanks to an assist from Kyle Patton to give Alvernia a 1-0 lead after the first 15 minutes of action.
  • Peter Capasso then put the Golden Wolves up 2-0 within the first minute of the second quarter when he netted an unassisted goal to push the lead to two.
  • The Monarch got on the board just a few minutes later to make it a 2-1 game.
  • Colin McFadyen then connected with McManus who tallied his second goal of the game with under nine to play in the half and push the Alvernia lead back to two, 3-1.
  • King's netted a goal just under a minute later to make it a one goal game but Kenny Howley responded with an unassisted goal of his own with under five minutes to play in the half to give Alvernia a 4-2 heading into the half.
  • The Golden Wolves scored the only goal of the third quarter after Tanner Caka netted his first collegiate goal after an assist from Howley to make it 5-2 Alvernia.
  • Kyle Moats added his name to the scoresheet just over a minute into the fourth quarter to extend the Golden Wolves lead to four, 6-2.
  • The Monarchs responded three minutes later with an unassisted goal from Ben Spencer to cut it to three.
  • Howley put Alvernia back up four just 26 seconds later when he tallied his second goal of the game and made it a 7-3 game with ten minutes to play.
  • King's recorded two goals in the final ten minutes of the game but it was not enough as the Golden Wolves held on to secure the 7-5 victory.
