Golden Wolves Knock Down Giants, 15-4

Reading, Pa (March 19, 2024) - Alvernia University (3-3) notched a season high 15 goals in a 15-4 victory over Keystone College (3-5) in a non-conference men's lacrosse matchup Tuesday evening at Alvernia. 

The Golden Wolves held the Giants scoreless in the first half and took a seven goal, 7-0 lead into the break. Alvernia then outscored Keystone 8-4 in the final two quarters of play en route to the 11 goal, 15-4 victory. 

How it Happened 
  • Alvernia grabbed the early lead after four first quarter goals to make it 4-0. Tanner Caka opened the scoring for Alvernia and Zackary Moats followed Caka up with a goal of his own to make it a 2-0 game. 
  • Ethan McManus netted back to back goals in the final four minutes of the quarter to extend the Alvernia lead to 4-0. 
  • The Golden Wolves tallied the only three goals of the second quarter after Riley Unser tallied a goal and Ryan Gilman and Peter Capasso both netted man up goals to take a 7-0 lead into the half. 
  • Keystone came out and grabbed its first goal of the game in the first 20 seconds of the third quarter to make it 7-1. 
  • Alvernia responded with two goals in the next five minutes after Gilman assisted Kenny Howley and then Gilman netted a goal thanks to a Kyle Patton assist to make it 9-1 Golden Wolves. 
  • Gilman, Capasso and McManus all scored goals in the final eight minutes of the third quarter as Alvernia pushed its lead to 11, 12-1 after three quarters of play. 
  • The Golden Wolves continued to find the back of the net in the fourth with Patton and Colin McFadyen tallying goals in the first seven minutes of the quarter to extend the advantage to 14-1. 
  • The Giants bounced back by netting three of the final four goals of the game but it was not enough as the Golden Wolves secured the 15-4 victory. 

Inside the Box Score 
  • Ryan Gilman led the Golden Wolves offensively with seven points off three goals and four assists. 
  • Both Kyle Patton and Ethan McManus recorded four points with McManus tallying four goals and Patton netted one goal and recorded three assists. 
  • Peter Capasso recorded two goals and an assist and Kenny Howley and Tanner Caka both recorded a goal and an assist. 
  • Dane Sabarese started in goal for Alvernia and recorded 16 saves and earned the win. 
  • Jack Mancha saw just under 15 minutes of game time in goal for Alvernia and tallied six saves. 
  • Jack Kenney went 10-20 on faceoffs for Alvernia.
