Wildcats Beat Golden Wolves, 11-8

Williamsport, Pa (March 23, 2024) - Penn College (4-5) scored five goals in the second quarter en route to an 11-8 victory over Alvernia University (3-4) Saturday afternoon in a non-conference men's lacrosse matchup at Penn College. 

The Wildcats and the Golden Wolves were knotted at three after the first 15 minutes of play but Penn College then tallied five goals in the second quarter to take an 8-5 lead at the break. The Golden Wolves matched the Wildcats with three goals in the second half but it was not enough as Penn College secured the 11-8 victory. 

How it Happened 
  • Penn College got on the board immediately with a goal in just seven seconds to take a 1-0 lead. 
  • The Golden Wolves responded with three straight goals in the next four minutes to grab the 3-1 lead. Ryan Gilman started things off with an unassisted goal and then Colin McFadyen netted back to back goals. Kyle Patton and Kenny Howley each recorded assists on McFadyen's goals. 
  • Penn College scored two goals in the final eight minutes of the first quarter to tie the game at three after one quarter of play. 
  • Ethan McManus assisted Peter Capasso in the first two minutes of the second quarter to make it 4-3 Golden Wolves but the Wildcats responded with three goals in five minutes to take a 6-4 lead. 
  • Gilman assisted Howley to halt the Wildcats scoring run but Penn College finished the half with two goals in the final two minutes to take an 8-5 lead into the half.  
  • Capasso pulled the Golden Wolves within two three minutes into the second half to make it 8-6 but the Wildcats bounced back with two goals in two minutes to take a four goal, 10-6 lead. 
  • The Golden Wolves cut the deficit to three with four minutes to go in the third quarter when Zackary Moats connected with McManus to make it a 10-7 game. 
  • The Wildcats pushed the lead back to four with a goal in the final two minutes of the third stanza, 11-7 with 15 minutes to play. 
  • McFadyen netted his third goal of the game with just over eight minutes to go in the contest to cut the Wildcat lead to three, 11-8. 
  • Penn College kept Alvernia at bay in the final eight minutes of the game to secure the three goal, 11-8 victory.
