Golden Wolves and Red Devils Split

Carlisle, Pa (March 21, 2024) - Dickinson College (2-10) grabbed game one 11-6 but Alvernia University (10-7) grabbed game two, 7-5 to secure the series split with the Red Devils in a non-conference softball matchup Thursday evening at Dickinson. 

Dickinson scored six runs in the final two innings to secure game one, 11-6 but the Golden Wolves came back and grabbed game two, 7-5 to split the series with the Red Devils.

How it Happened 
  • Dickinson got on the board early after a two run homer to left field by Zoe Kleeblatt gave the Red Devils a 2-0 lead after the first inning. 
  • The Red Devils tacked another on in the home half of the third inning thanks to an RBI groundout to take a 3-0 lead. 
  • Dickenson continued to tack on runs, this time posting a two-spot in the fourth inning to take a five run lead over the Golden Wolves. An RBI double to center and an RBI single to left plated two runs for the Red Devils and made it a 5-0 ballgame. 
  • The Golden Wolves responded with two runs in the top of the fifth thanks to a two RBI triple by Emily Sano that plated Maggie Loomis and Taylor McClain to cut the Dickinson lead to three, 5-2. 
  • An RBI single and a two RBI double for the Red Devils in the home half of the fifth pushed the advantage to six, 8-2 after five innings of play. 
  • The Golden Wolves responded with four runs in the top of the sixth thanks to two RBI singles by Alaina Snader and Emily Sano to cut the deficit to two, 8-6. 
  • The Red Devils bounced back in the home half of the sixth with a sac fly that scored a run and back to back RBI doubles to make it 11-6 and secure the victory in game one.

How it Happened 
  • The Golden Wolves jumped ahead early in game two with two runs in the first inning after a sac fly by McClain allowed Alexia Fitzgerald to score to make it 1-0. 
  • Sano and Loomis then successfully executed a first and third steal that allowed Loomis to score and made it 2-0 Golden Wolves. 
  • Alvernia made it 3-0 in the second inning when Loomis slapped a ground ball deep in the 5-6 hole, Loomis beat the throw which allowed Snader to score to take a three run lead. 
  • Alvernia extended the lead to 5-0 in the fourth inning after a two RBI triple by McClain that scored Fitzgerald and Payton LaScala
  • Dickinson cut it to a three run game after back to back RBI singles and then an RBI groundout made it a 5-3 game. 
  • The Red Devils tied the game up after a two RBI double knotted the game at five. 
  • The Golden Wolves responded in the top half of the fifth inning after a Tara Tumasz RBI double scored Kalli Bunnell to make it 6-5 Alvernia. 
  • Snader then recorded a sac fly to left that was deep enough to score Tumasz and give the Golden Wolves a 7-5 lead. 
  • Maggie Loomis shut the Red Devils down in their final two at bats to secure the 7-5 victory for the Golden Wolves and secure the series split.
