Alvernia’s Offense Explodes, Shuts Out Rival Lions, 14-0

Reading, Pa (March 29, 2024) - Alvernia University (11-9, 4-3) scored runs in seven of the nine innings en route to a 14-0 shutout victory over Albright College (4-13, 0-6) Friday afternoon in a MAC Commonwealth baseball matchup at Albright. 

The Golden Wolves racked up 12 hits, scored 14 runs and allowed just three hits en route to a 14-0 victory over crosstown rivals Albright.

How it Happened 
  • The Golden Wolves got things going immediately with a sac fly from Jason Kelly that scored Quincy Esannason and Jake Chapman scored thanks to an Albright error to give Alvernia a 2-0 lead. 
  • Alvernia tacked two more on in the top of the third inning after Matt Edwards recorded a fielder's choice that scored Mike Ramundo and then Edwards stole home to extend the lead to 4-0. 
  • The Golden Wolves tallied two more in the fourth to extend the lead to six after a Ramundo RBI single and Kelly tallied his second sac fly of the day to make it 6-0 Golden Wolves. 
  • Scott Anderson singled to left field to drive in a run and Ramundo poked a two RBI single to right field to take three more on in the fifth and make it a 9-0 ballgame. 
  • Timmy Hitchcock singled through the right side in the sixth inning to score Edwards to extend the lead to double digits, 10-0. 
  • Two RBI groundouts by Hitchcock and Ben Houghton saw the Golden Wolves tack two more runs on in the seventh to make it a 12-0 advantage. 
  • Alex DeForge ripped a two RB double into right to tack on two more insurance runs for the Golden Wolves. 
  • Josh Krieder came on in the ninth, struck out the side and shut the Lions down to secure the shutout victory.
