How it Happened
  • After neither team could string anything together through the first four innings, Brooke Hauck led off the bottom of the fifth with a single to right and moved to second with one out on a stolen base. Hauck then scored on a triple on the right field line by Payton LaScala to give Alvernia the 1-0 lead. Alvernia then made it 2-0 on a single to left by Julie Burkhardt to drive in LaScala. Berks got out of the inning on a lineout to 1st base and a play at third on Alvernia's lead runner.
  • Berks got one back as the Lions led off the inning with a solo homer to left field. The Lions then tied it later in the inning on a miscommunication on a blooper to right field that allowed a run to score.
  • Tara Tumasz led off the bottom of the seventh with a single to the right gap to get things started for Alvernia. Penn State's catcher made a fantastic play on a pop-up foul off a bunt to get the first out of the inning and then Berks forced a play at second on a fielder's choice for the second out. Alvernia then had Burkhardt on 2nd and Alexia Fitzgerald on 1st with two outs, but forced a groundout to get out of the inning and send the game to extras.
  •  With the game moving to the ITB and placing a runner on second to start the extra inning, PSU Berks advanced their ITB runner to third on the first at-bat of the game. But, Alvernia got out of the inning with a flyout to second and a ground out to second, both fielded by Emily Sano.
  • Alvernia started its half of the eighth with Taylor McClain on second, and she advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt Paige Paciolla. Jaclyn Barbera then stepped up to the plate with one out and hit a fly ball to right field. The ball was caught in the air and McClain tug up for home and beat out the play at the plate to secure the 4-3 win for Alvernia as well as Landurm's 400th career win.
