Reading, Pa (April 15, 2024) - Alvernia University (16-11) dropped two close games to Lebanon Valley College (21-5) Monday afternoon in a non-conference softball doubleheader in Angelica Park.
The Golden Wolves pulled within one, 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh after a Brooke Hauck solo homer but were unable to push another run across as LVC took game one. Alvernia used some more late game magic in game two and tied the game up at two in the bottom of the seventh but surrendered two runs in the top of the eighth. The Golden Wolves tacked one on in the bottom of the eighth but it was not enough as LVC secured the sweep.

How it Happened
- LVC struck first after four innings of scoreless softball in the top of the fifth after Sam Burns doubled in the left center gap and drove in a run. Alvernia's Alexia Fitzgerald fired a laser to Payton Splain at third base to get Burns trying to stretch the double to a triple and end the inning, but LVC still held the 1-0 lead.
- The Dutchmen made it two in the top of the seventh after an RBI single up the middle plated a run to make it a 2-0 ballgame.
- Brooke Hauck stepped up and smoked a leadoff solo shot over the left center wall to pull within one, 2-1.
- The Golden Wolves got a runner in scoring position after Payton LaScala singled down the right field line and then stole second but they could not bring her around as LVC secured the 2-1 in game one.

How it Happened
- The Dutchmen struck first again in game two after a sacrifice fly in the second inning plated a run to give LVC an early, 1-0 lead.
- LVC made it two in the top of the third after an errant Alvernia throw allowed a run to score and give the Dutchmen a 2-0 lead.
- The Golden Wolves halved the LVC lead in the home half of the fifth after Paige Paciolla ripped an RBI single to left center that allowed Hauck to score and make it a 2-1 ballgame.
- Alvernia then tied it up in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a Fitzgerald RBI single to center that allowed Tara Tumasz to score and send the game into extras.
- LVC tacked on a run in the top of the eighth after an RBI single to right field scored a run and then another Alvernia error allowed a second run to score as the Dutchmen took a two run, 4-2 lead.
- The Golden Wolves got one back in the bottom half after Hauck reached on a fielder's choice that plated a run to make it 4-3 but Alvernia could not get another run across to tie it as LVC grabbed game two and secured the sweep.
