Chester, Pa (April 20, 2024) - Alvernia University (19-12, 7-5) split a doubleheader with Widener University (11-15, 5-7) Saturday evening in a MAC Commonwealth softball matchup at Widener.
The Golden Wolves took game one 13-4 behind three RBI performances from Jaclyn Barbera and Taylor McClain but dropped game two, 6-5 to the Pride to split the doubleheader.

How it Happened
- Alvernia struck first in the top of the second after Brooke Hauck and Emily Sano scored via a Widener error to give Alvernia a quick 2-0 lead.
- The Golden Wolves made it three in the third thanks to a McClain RBI single to center that scored Alexia Fitzgerald to make it a 3-0 ballgame.
- Widener grabbed the lead in the bottom of the third after putting four runs across the plate to take the 4-3 lead.
- The Golden Wolves responded in the fourth after an RBI groundout by Maggie Loomis leveled the score at four.
- Alvernia then regained the lead in the fifth thanks to a Payton LaScala fielder's choice and then LaScala and Hauck executed a 1st and 3rd steal opportunity to score Hauck and give the Golden Wolves a 6-4 lead.
- Barbera then lifted a sacrifice fly to center that allowed LaScala to score and then Payton Splain recorded a sacrifice fly to center to push another run across the plate and extend the Alvernia lead to four, 8-4.
- Hauck tacked two more on in the sixth after a two run shot to make it a 10-4 game.
- Alvernia scored three more runs in the seventh for insurance with a Loomis RBI groundout and then McClain singled to left to score two more to secure the 13-4 victory in game one.

How it Happened
- Widener grabbed the lead first in game two with two runs in the bottom of the first to make it 2-0 early.
- The Golden Wolves responded in the top half of the third with three runs to take the lead. Fitzgerald started things off with an RBI single, McClain then drove Fitzgerald in but was thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double.
- Sano capped the three run inning with a RBI double to center to give Alvernia the 3-2 lead.
- Widener grabbed the lead back in the bottom half of the inning thanks to a two run homer by Katelyn Tong and a solo shot by Alyssa Gomez to give the Pride the 5-3 lead.
- The Golden Wolves leveled things back up in the fourth inning thanks to a two RBI double to center by Hauck to tie the game at five.
- The Pride would score the game winning run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI groundout to third that allowed a run to score to make it 6-5.
- The Golden Wolves had runners on first and third in the top of the seventh but were unable to get the tying run across as the Pride took game two to secure the series split.
