Nine Winter Student-Athletes Earn Academic All-MAC Honors

Reading, Pa. (July 8, 2024) - Alvernia University placed nine student-athletes on respective 2024 Winter Academic All-MAC Teams, as announced by Middle Atlantic Conference Executive Director Megan Morrison on Monday.

Bobby Mullan (Men's Basketball), Jordan Karmonick (Women's Basketball), Kayla Williams (Women's Basketball), Matthew Davies (Men's Ice Hockey), Jackson Fellner (Men's Ice Hockey), Logan vande Meerakker (Men's Ice Hockey), Julia Beaven (Women's Ice Hockey), Julia Franklin (Women's Ice Hockey), and Matthew Lackman (Men's Wrestling) earned the honor for Alvernia.

The Winter Academic All-MAC teams recognize the top student-athletes both in the classroom and in athletic competition during the 2024 spring semester. The MAC sports information directors nominate and vote on the Academic All-MAC teams, giving 50 percent weight on both academic success and athletic success. A student-athlete must have a spring semester grade-point average (GPA) of 3.20 or higher to be eligible for the award

Robert Mullan, a senior majoring in nursing, was a 2024 MAC Honor Roll honoree. Mullan averaged 13.8 points per game and 3.4 rebounds per game. Mullan shot .360 from 3-point range and .404 overall. He finished the year with 52 assists and 22 steals over 28 games played. This is Mullan's first Academic All-MAC honoree.

Jordan Karmonick, a senior majoring in nursing, was the 2024 MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Year. Karmonick also earned Second Team All-MAC Commonwealth. She started in all 26 games for Alvernia and led the Golden Wolves in minutes played. She averaged 10.5 points per game and seven rebounds per game. She finished the year with 103 assists and a MAC leading 2.0 assist/turnover ratio. This is Karmonick's second Academic All-MAC honor.

Kayla Williams, a senior majoring in early childhood education, was a First Team All-MAC Commonwealth selection. Williams played in 24 games for Alvernia and averaged 14.5 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game. She led the MAC Commonwealth with 69 blocks and set a new single-season record for Alvernia. Williams became the 14th player in program history to record 1,000 career points. This is Williams' first career Academic All-MAC honor. 

Matthew Davies, a sophomore majoring in finance, was a Second Team All-UCHC honoree. He played in 26 games for Alvernia at defense and finished the season with six goals and ten assists for 16 points. He also had 34 blocked shots. This is Davies' first Academic All-MAC honor. 

Jackson Fellner, a first year majoring in engineering, was the 2024 MAC Rookie of the Year and a second team All-MAC goalie. Fellner played in 18 games in goal for Alvernia and finished with an 8-9-1 overall record. He finished the season with 582 saves and a .924 save percentage. This is Fellner's first Academic All-MAC honor.

Logan vande Meerakker, a graduate student pursuing his MBA, was a first team All-UCHC honoree and second team All-MAC honoree. Meerakker played in 27 games for Alvernia and finished the season with 14 goals, 19 assists, and 33 points. His 33 points led the MAC and UCHC. He had 12 multi-point games and finished with a +24 +/- ranking. Meerakker signed a professional contract following the 2024 season. This is his second Academic All-MAC honor.

Julia Beaven, a graduate student pursuing her MBA, was the 2024 MAC Women's Ice Hockey Senior Scholar athlete. Beaven also earned second team All-MAC honors. Beaven played in 21 games for Alvernia and finished the season with an 8-8-4 record. She finished with 556 saves and a 1.71 goals against average. This is Beaven's fifth Academic All-MAC honor, making her the first five-time honoree for Alvernia.

Julia Franklin, a junior majoring in biology, was a first team All-MAC honoree in 2024. Franklin played in 25 of Alvernia's 26 games and scored a team-high 21 points. Franklin finished the season with 12 goals and nine assists. She led Alvernia with 197 faceoff wins. This is Franklin's first Academic All-MAC honor.

Matthew Lackman, a senior majoring in marketing, was a 2024 NCAA All-American after earning 3rd place at the Division III National Championship. Lackman took first at NCAA Regionals and was the MAC Champion at 165 lbs. Lackman finished the season with a 45-1 overall record to earn his second straight All-American honor. This is Lackman's second Academic All-MAC honor.
