Strong First Half Carries Alvernia Past Arcadia, 2-0

Glenside, PA (Sept. 10, 2024) - Alvernia University (3-1) used two first half goals to down Arcadia University (2-3) 2-0 on Tuesday night in non-conference field hockey action at Arcadia.

Alvernia scored the fifth and 20th minutes to take a 2-0 lead into the half. Alvernia's defense took over from there and kept the Knights off the board in the second half to take the 2-0 win and pick up its third straight win.

How it Happened
  • Alvernia had three penalty corner opportunities in the first four minutes of action, and broke through on the third attempt. Olivia Hess inserted the ball into Kathryn Palmer, and Palmer put the ball in the back of the goal to give Alvernia the early 1-0 lead in the fifth minute.
  • That shot would be Alvernia's only shot in the first quarter, but the Golden Wolves also kept the Knights from taking any looks on goal.
  • Alvernia began pressuring the Knights through the first five minutes of the second quarter, recording three penalty corner opportunities and three shots on goal. Alvernia broke through on its fourth look on goal of the quarter as Ana Jones found Ava Michael in the 20th minute to give Alvernia the 2-0 lead.
  • Lexi Boettcher made two saves for Alvernia in the second quarter to keep it a 2-0 game going into the half.
  • Coming out of the break, neither team was able to get looks on goal. Alvernia finished the third quarter with no shots on goal, and Boettcher made another save for Alvernia to keep it a 2-0 game going into the fourth quarter.
  • Alvernia kept the Knights from getting any opportunities in the final frame as Alvernia came away with the 2-0 win.
