Doylestown, Pa. (Sept. 14, 2024) - Delaware Valley University (2-0), who is receiving votes, jumped out to a 14-0 lead through four minutes of gameplay and never looked back as the Aggies downed Alvernia University (1-1), 42-7, on Saturday afternoon at Delaware Valley in the 2024 MAC opener.
How it Happened
- The Golden Wolves received the opening kick after Delaware Valley differed, and Alvernia got to work on the 40 yard line following a 30 yard return for Zach Ayers. Alvernia went three and out on the first drive after failing to convert a 3rd and short.
- Delaware Valley wasted no time finding the back of the end zone as Louis Barrios connected with Nashir Morgan on an 80-yard reception on the first play from scrimmage for the Aggie. It was a near repeat of how Delaware Valley started out last week's game against Hampden Sydney.Â
- Alvernia started its next drive around the same spot as its first drive, but a strip sack on Colin Payne gave the Aggies the ball on the Alvernia 39-yard line. Delaware Valley needed just two more plays - both rushes from Jack Fallon - to take a 14-0 lead through just under four minutes of game play.
- Alvernia was forced to punt it away on its next drive following a 3rd and very long. The Aggies took back over on their own 20 yard line with 3:40 to play in the first, and started working on the yardage and the clock. The Aggies took off nearly eight minutes of the clock and 70 yards to find the end zone and take a 21-0 lead.Â
- Later in the quarter, the Aggies kept it rolling with a one-handed reception from Barrios to Alvaro Lora to make it a 28-0 game to close out the first half.
- Delaware Valley added another touchdown with 5:57 on an eight yard pass to make it a 35-0 game, and the Aggies opened the fourth quarter with a 64 yard reception to make it a 42-0 game.
- Alvernia prevented the shutout with a 29-yard reception from Payne to Jayden Thrift with 9:44 to play, but the Aggies took the 42-7 lead.
