Alvernia Takes 3-1 Win Over Misericordia

Reading, Pa. (Jan. 11, 2025) - Alvernia University (7-7, 5-5) scored two unanswered goals to take a 3-1 win over Misericordia University (1-9-3,1-8-2) and secure the weekend sweep of the Cougars on Saturday night in MAC Men's Ice Hockey action.

After a tied first period, Alvernia scored two goals in the second period to take the 3-1 lead. Alvernia then kept the Cougars off the board in the third to take the 3-1 win. With the win, Alvernia earned its first home weekend sweep of the season and guaranteed the series win over Misericordia.

How it Happened
  • Alvernia pressured from the jump and sent in eight shots in the first five minutes of action, but Alvernia could not break through until late in the period. Matthew Imbriano got the Golden Wolves on the board in the 16th minute on a diving shot off the left post to make it a 1-0 game.
  • Misericordia answered three minutes later and evened the game at 1-1 after James Eng for the Cougars fired a shot in and got it past Will Augustine in net for Alvernia. The game went into the second tied at 1-1.
  • The Golden Wolves came out of the break with speed and kept possession away from the Cougars in the early minutes of the period. Alvernia then broke the 1-1 tie with Easton Inglis scoring off the assists of Brock Mueller and Sawyer Senior to give the Golden Wolves the 2-1 lead just over seven minutes into the period.
  • Alvernia added onto its lead late in the period when Riley Egan scored his second of the weekend off a great look from Frazer Dodd to make it a 3-1 game with two minutes remaining in the period.
