Wilkes Barre, Pa (January 18, 2025) - Alvernia University grabbed its first men's wrestling MAC team title in program history and placed 14 wrestlers on the podium and had seven earn All-MAC honors Saturday at the 2025 MAC Men's Wrestling Championships at King's College. 

Keito Shaw, Chance Babb, Matthew Lackman, Nathan Lackman and Owen Reber all recorded first place finishes in their respective weight classes. Jason Rezac recorded a second place finish and Quinn Tobin tallied a third place finish. 

The Golden Wolves recorded 159 team points to secure the first team title in program history. Messiah finished in second with 124 team points and Stevens finished in third with 115.5. 

How it Happened

• Keito Shaw recorded a first place finish in the 125 pound bracket and started his day with a 15-0 tech fall over Misericordia's Hayden Best in just under two minutes to advance to the 125 pound quarterfinals. Shaw then recorded a decision in the quarterfinal and then tallied a 16-0 tech fall over Arnold from Messiah to advance to the final. Shaw then recorded a 5-2 decision over Asfour from Del Val to secure the 125 pound title. 
• Chance Babb also recorded a first place finish and opened his day up with an 11-2 major decision over David Vacca from York in the 149 pound bracket to kick his championship off. Babb then tallied a fall in the quarterfinal and then a 12-3 major decision in the semi to punch his ticket to the final. Babb then took down Cortese from Stevens by way of a 22-5 tech fall to secure the 149 pound title. 
• Quinn Tobin posted a third place finish on the day. Tobin dropped his first match of the day to Cortese from Stevens and then ripped off back to back falls in the consolation bracket to move onto the consi-semis. Tobin then recorded a 14-2 major decision to advance to the 3rd place bout. Tobin then received a medical forfeit in the third place bout to grab third team All-MAC honors. 
• Jason Rezac got his day going with a 19-2 tech fall over Chase Stephen from Misericordia in the 157 pound bracket. Rezac then tallied a fall and a 12-2 major decision in the quarter and semi finals to advance to the 157 pound title. Rezac then dropped the title bout to Smith from Stevens by decision, 9-3 to secure second place. 
• Matthew Lackman recorded his fourth 165 pound MAC title and started his day off with a 16-1 tech fall in the quarterfinal to advance to the semifinal. Lackman then tallied another tech fall, this one a 20-3 tech fall over Bailey from Stevens to advance to his fourth straight MAC title bout. Lackman then took down Demarest from Messiah by decision, 4-0 to secure the title.
• Nathan Lackman also recorded a first place finish but in the 174 pound bracket. Lackman received a bye in the first round and then tallied a 21-4 tech fall in the quarterfinal bout. Lackman then advanced to the semifinal and tallied another tech fall over Hatchman from King's to punch his ticket to his first MAC title bout. Lackman then recorded a 14-4 major decision over Brass from Messiah to secure the 174 pound title. 
• Owen Reber rounded out the All-MAC honorees for the Golden Wolves with a first place finish in the 285 pound bracket. Reber recorded back to back falls in the round of 16 and the quarterfinals to advance to the semis. Reber then defeated teammate Pellot-Vazquez by decision, 5-1 to punch his ticket to the heavyweight final. Reber then posted a close 3-2 decision over Hidlay from Misericordia to secure the 285 title.
