Golden Wolves Go 4-0 at Millersville Duals

Millersville, Pa (January 25, 2025) - Alvernia University went 4-0 Saturday afternoon at the Millersville Duals and recorded victories over Salem, Felician, American International and Thaddeus Stevens. 

Match 1: Salem: 15, Alvernia: 29
  • Julian Zaragoza started things off with a pin in the 125 pound bout over Devin Fowler to put the Golden Wolves up 6-0. 
  • Salem then grabbed the 133 and 141 pound bouts to take the 7-6 lead. 
  • The Golden Wolves then ripped off five straight wins from 149 to 184 pound matches. Nolan Brown and Aiden Swann tallied decisions at 149 and 157 pounds respectively to make it 12-7 Alvernia. 
  • Matthew Lackman recorded a 15-0 tech fall at 165 pounds and Nathan Lackman received a forfeit at 174 pounds. 
  • Hayden McLellan then tallied a fall in the 184 pound match in 52 seconds to make it a 29-7 Alvernia lead. 
  • Salem took both the 197 pound and 285 pound matches but it was not enough as Alvernia secured the 29-15 victory. 

Match 2: American International: 11, Alvernia: 33
  • Zaragoza started things off again with a victory in the 125 pound bout with a 13-3 major decision to give Alvernia a 4-0 lead. 
  • AIC then took the 133 and 141 pound matches to give them the 6-4 lead but three straight victories by Alvernia swung the lead back in favor of the Golden Wolves. Quinn Tobin started things with a 14-3 major decision at 149 pounds, Aiden Swann recorded a forfeit at 157 pounds, Matthew Lackman recorded a fall in 2:59 in the 165 pound bout. 
  • American International took the 174 pound match but Alvernia rounded out the dual with wins at 184, 197 and 285 to secure the 33-11 victory. McLellan recorded a 13-8 decision at 184 pounds, Myles Brown tallied an 11-2 major decision at 197 and Owen Reber received a forfeit at 285. 

Match 3: Felician: 13, Alvernia: 41
  • Alvernia received forfeits at 125 and 133 pounds to grab the early 12-0 lead to start the dual. Felician then took the 141 pound bout to make it 12-5. 
  • Tobin then received a forfeit at 149 pounds but Felician took the 157 pound match as the Golden Wolves held an 18-1 lead. 
  • Matthew Lackman recorded another tech fall at 165 pounds with a 17-0 tech fall, William Knapp recorded a fall at 174 pounds and James Moffat received a forfeit at 184 pounds as Alvernia extended the lead to 35-10. 
  • Felician took the 197 pound bout but Alvernia secured the 41-13 victory thanks to a fall by Mauro Pellot-Vazquez at 285 pounds to seal it for Alvernia. 

Match 4: Thaddeus Stevens: 6, Alvernia: 48
  • The Golden Wolves jumped out to a 21-0 lead after the first four bouts in the final match of the day. Zaragoza recorded a fall in 2:24 at 125 pounds, Anthony Astorino tallied a 9-3 decision at 133 pounds and Sebastino Spina and Nolan Brown recorded falls at 141 and 149 pounds for Alvernia. 
  • Paul Kakos and Matthew Lackman received forfeits at 157 and 165 pounds respectively to make it 33-0 Alvernia. 
  • Moffat tallied a pin in 3:40 at 174 pounds, Knapp recorded a 9-6 decision at 184 pounds and Myles Brown received a forfeit at 197 to make it 48-0 Alvernia. Felician broke the shutout with a victory at 285.

  • The Golden Wolves are back in action next Saturday when they host Elizabethtown in a home dual on Jack McCloskey Court at 7:00 PM. Prior to the dual, Alvernia will recognize its 2025 senior class.
