Golden Wolves Fall to Lakers, 5-0

Oswego, N.Y. (January 4, 2025) - Alvernia University (6-6) fell to Oswego State University (6-4-2) 5-0, in the Oswego State Holiday Tournament Championship in non-conference men's ice hockey action Saturday evening at Oswego State. 

The Lakers tallied a three goal first period and then added goals in the second and third periods en route to the 5-0 victory over the Golden Wolves. 

How it Happened 
  • Oswego State got on the board first in the tenth minute of the first period after Brandon Cohen netted a power play goal after assists from Nico Paone and Ryan Burke to make it 1-0 Lakers. 
  • The Golden Wolves had a penalty shot opportunity after Matthew Imbriano was interfered with while attempting a shot on goal. Imbriano skated toward the Lakers goal and beat Oswego State's Brandon Milberg but the puck clanked off the crossbar to preserve the 1-0 Lakers lead. 
  • The Lakers doubled the lead four minutes later when Matt McQuade scored another power play goal for Oswego State and made it a 2-0 game with under seven minutes to go in the first period. 
  • The Lakers made it a three goal lead in the final two minutes of the first period when Cohen netted his second goal of the period thanks to an assist from McQuade as the Lakers took a 3-0 lead into the first intermission. 
  • Oswego State made it 4-0 in the first three minutes of the second period after Michael Urgo and Justin Ryan assisted Mike St. Kocsis, who gave the Lakers a four goal lead. 
  • The Golden Wolves sent nine shots on the Lakers goal but could not find the back of the net as the Lakers held a 4-0 lead heading to the final period of play. 
  • Alvernia tallied 16 shots at the Oswego State net in the first ten minutes of the third period with seven going on goal but Milberg continued to deny the Golden Wolves and hold the 4-0 lead. 
  • The Lakers extended their lead to five after a Cam Symons goal in the 12th minute of the third period made it 5-0 Oswego State. 
  • Alvernia sent six shots at the Lakers net in the final ten minutes but could not find the back of the net as Oswego State secured the 5-0 victory.
