Reading, Pa. (Oct. 9, 2025) - Alvernia Athletics will kickoff an action-packed Homecoming and Family Weekend on Friday as Field Hockey plays in the first of four games slated for the weekend.
Field Hockey gets things underway on Friday at 4:00 PM with their MAC Commonwealth opener against Messiah University. Football then kicks off a Saturday triple-header hosting Albright College at 1:00 PM. Men's Soccer is next on deck hosting York College at 5:00 PM. Women's Soccer closes out the weekend hosting York at 8:00 PM. A preview of each game is below, and stick with Alvernia Athletics on social media for coverage throughout the weekend.
Field Hockey vs. Messiah | Friday at 4:00 PM
The Golden Wolves open up their MAC Commonwealth schedule hosting the Falcons on Friday evening. Field Hockey enters Friday with a 5-7 record and is coming off a 4-1 win over Arcadia on Tuesday. Alvernia's offense is averaging 2.42 goals per game and its defense is giving up just 1.83 goals per game. The Alvernia offense is led by the duo of Caroline Martin and Ava Michael. Both have 21 points on the season - Martin has nine goals and three assists and Michael has eight goals and five assists. In goal for the Golden Wolves, Zoe Caloviras is 3-4 in net with a 1.55 goals against average and a .797 save percentage.
Messiah is 4-6 on the year and enters Friday coming off a 3-1 win over The College of New Jersey this past Saturday. The Falcons are averaging 1.2 goals per game and the defense is allowing 1.7 goals per game. Messiah has two players with three goals and an assist on the year - Aubrey Clark and Ellie Lefever. In goal, Joy Lippert has played every minute for the Falcons of the 2025 season. She has a 1.40 goals against average with four shutouts and a .78 save percentage.
The last time the two teams faced off at Alvernia was in 2023. The Falcons were ranked fourth in the nation at the time and defeated Alvernia 5-2. Caroline Martin, a first year at the time, scored one of Alvernia's two goals in the game.

Football vs. Albright | Saturday at 1:00 PM
Alvernia Football will host crosstown rival Albright at 1:00 PM on Saturday. Both teams are coming off the MAC-wide bye week last week. Saturday will mark the fifth meeting between the Golden Wolves and Lions. The series is tied at 2-2, and both teams are 1-1 on Alverna's campus. Last year, the two teams went to overtime on the campus of Albright. The Lions scored the game-winning touchdown in overtime.
Alvernia enters Saturday in the hunt for its first win of the 2025 season after coming off a 41-10 loss to Misericordia two weeks ago. Alvernia is averaging 13.5 points per game and 296.8 offensive yards per game. Defensively, the Golden Wolves are allowing 35.3 points per game and allow 378.5 yards per game. Alvernia averages 144.8 rushing yards per game and 152 passing yards per game. Defensively, they allow 211.5 rushing yards per game and 167 passing yards per game.
Alvernia's offense is led by dual-threat rusher and receiver, Jayden Stanfield. He has 15 receptions for 196 yards and has 15 rushes for 105 yards on the ground. Defensively, McCabe Piavis leads Alvernia with 36 tackles on the year - including four tackles for a loss and two sacks. He also has an interception and a forced fumble.
Albright enters Saturday with a 2-2 record overall and a 1-2 record in MAC play. The Lions are coming off a 35-9 win at home over Widener prior to the bye week. Albright dropped its first two games of the conference schedule to Misericorda, 42-21, and Delaware Valley, 35-28. The Lions are averaging 23.3 points per game and are second in the MAC in yards per game with an average of 405.3. Defensively, the Lions allow an average of 23.3 points per game and 311.3 yards per game. Albright favors the pass game heavily compared to its ground game. The Lions are averaging 301.5 yards per game in the air compared to 103.8 yards on the ground per game.
Albright's offense is led by Chase Roberts under center. Roberts has 94 completions for 1,190 yards and eight touchdowns this season. His favorite target is Arthur Poindexter, who has 41 receptions for 572 yards and six touchdowns on the year. His 15 reception, two touchdown performance against Widener prior to the bye week earned him a spot on the D3Football.com Team of the Week.
Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 20. The stadium opens at 11:30 AM, with ticketing taking place between the Campus Commons and Physical Education.

Men's Soccer vs. York College | Saturday at 5:00 PM
Men's Soccer will host York College on Saturday at 5:00 PM for game two of the Saturday triple-header. Alvernia enters Saturday with a 2-7-3 record overall and is 0-1 in MAC Commonwealth play. But, the Golden Wolves will look to ride the momentum of a 1-1 draw on Wednesday night to #18 Rowan University that came with an 89th minute equalizer from Joseph Washington. Alverina's offense is averaging 1.33 goals per game and its defense is allowing an average of 2.00 goals per game. Alvernia's offense is led by Connor Kraycik with three goals and an assist on the year. Eli Klinger, Chase Malone, Joseph Washington, and Aidan Courtney all have two goals on the year. In goal for Alvernia,Evan Solley has a 2.09 goals against average with59 saves and four shutouts. He will enter Saturday coming off a career-high 14 save performance against Rowan on Wednesday.
York is 6-3-34 on the year and is 1-0 in MAC Commonwealth play following a 1-0 win over Albright on Saturday. The Spartans have not allowed a goal the last three games and enter Saturday coming off a 1-0 win over Washington College (Md.) on Tuesday. The Spartans are averaging 1.23 goals per game and their defense enters Saturday with just 0.85 goals allowed per game. York is led by junior Gavin Huey, who has four goals and two assists on the year. In goal, Chase Broughman has seen the majority of the minutes this season for the Spartans. He has a 4-2-3 record with just eight goals allowed and 36 saves.
York defeated Alvernia 2-1 in 2024, but Alvernia defeated the Spartans 2-1 during Homecoming in 2023. Alvernia has also won three of the last four meetings between the two teams since York joined the MAC Commonwealth prior to the 2021 season.

Women's Soccer vs. York College | Saturday at 8:00 PM
Women's Soccer hosts York College on Saturday at 8:00 PM for the third and final game of Saturday's Homecoming triple-header. Alvernia enters Saturday with a 4-5-3 record and the Golden Wolves are 1-0 in MAC Commonwealth play. Alvernia enters Saturday coming off a 2-0 win over William Paterson on Wednesday night. The Golden Wolves are averaging 1.00 goals per game and allow just 0.75 goals per game defensively. Alvernia's offense is led by sophomore Tayler Flaherty. Flaherty ranks in a tie for third in the MAC Commonwealth with six goals on the season. She also has two assists on the year and has recorded at least one point in five of Alvernia's last six games. In goal for Alvernia, Emily Rossino and Abby Rowley have split time throughout the season. Rosino has a 0.44 goals against average with 27 saves for a .931 save percentage in 410 minutes played. Rowley has a .94 goals against average with 32 saves and a .821 save percentage in 669 minutes played.
York is 7-3-2 on the year and is 1-0 in the MAC Commonwealth following a conference opening 1-0 win over Albright last weekend. Including the Lions, the Spartans have shutout their last two opponents and have not allowed a shot by either opponent. York's offense is led by senior Lexi Mazzella, who has eight goals on the year. The Spartans have also used five goalies so far this season, with Teresa Gonzalez and Joss Metz seeing the majority of time in net for York. Gonzalez is 3-1-2 on the year with five goals allowed and 15 saves, while Metz is 4-2 on the year with four goals allowed and 11 saves. Gonzalez has played 513 minutes for the Spartans, and Metz has 434 minutes.
York defeated Alvernia 3-1 in 2024 at York. The two last met at Alvernia during Homecoming in 2023, and the Spartans took the contest, 2-0.
