Reading, Pa.(Nov. 1, 2025) - Delaware Valley Football (5-3, 5-2) defeated Alvernia University (0-8, 0-7), 43-10, on Saturday afternoon in MAC football action on the campus of Alvernia University.
The Aggies led 21-3 at the half and tacked another 22 points in the second half for the 43-10 final.
Alvernia honored its senior class prior to the contest.
Delaware Valley took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, capping off a 10-play, 53-yard drive with a five yard rush by Justin Brown. The Golden Wolves were working the ball down the field on the ensuing drive, but Alvernia fumbled the ball on the Aggie's 29-yard line. Delaware Valley took over and moved the ball down the field as the game moved into the second quarter. On the first play of the second quarter, the Aggies found the end zone again - this time on a 14-yard rush by Brown to give Delaware Valley the 14-0 lead.
Alvernia again worked the ball down the field on its next drive of the game, utilizing the combination of three completions by JJ Gonzalez at quarterback and a trio of rushes by Andrew Simmons at running back to get the ball down to the Aggie's 34-yard line. But, Delaware Valley grabbed its second turnover of the game as Gonzalez was intercepted on the two-yard line. Delaware Valley took the 21-0 lead on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Mike Galasso to Rob McConnell with 7:30 remaining in the half.
After a trading of drives, Alvernia got the ball back 30 seconds remaining in the half at its own 44-yard line. A trio of completions by Gonzalez - including an 18-yard connection to Jayden Stanfield - put Alvernia down at the Delaware Valley 21-yard line with one second on the clock. Toriano Allard stepped up and made a 38-yard field goal to put Alvernia on the board, 21-3, going into the half.
The Aggies came out and scored a touchdown to open the second half and take a 28-3 lead. Alvernia then stopped the Aggies second drive of the day as defensive lineman Marvin Foster intercepted a pass from Galasso in the red zone. But, Alvernia could not take advantage of the momentum boost and punted the ensuing drive away.
Alvernia made a defensive stop and held the Aggies to a field goal after Delaware Valley was marching down the field to the Alvernia six-yard line. But, a holding penalty on the Aggies and a pass break-up by Teon Aiken stalled out the drive for the Aggies as they settled for a 33-yard field goal to take a 31-3 lead as the game moved into the fourth quarter.
Alvernia opened the fourth quarter with a 6-yard completion from Gonzalez to Michael Williams. Gonzalez then scrambled for a 10-yard gain to move Alvernia into Delaware Valley territory. Gonzalez then handed it off to Andrew Simmons, who ran it down the Delaware Valley sideline for a 46-yard touchdown to make it a 31-10 game with ten minutes to play.
On Delaware Valley's ensuing drive, Ethan Rebyak forced and recovered a fumble deep in Alvernia territory. Alvernia took over after the fumble on its own 8-yard line, but the Golden Wolves were called for a safety after Alvernia was tackled in the end zone on a reverse to make it a 33-10 game. The Aggies then scored a field goal following the free kick for the 36-10 advantage. After another interception at the Aggie 1-yard line that was returned 37 yards, Delaware Valley ripped off a 44 yard rush and then scored on an 18-yard touchdown reception to take a 43-10 lead with two minutes to play. Alvernia drove the ball on the ensuing drive, but stalled out and turned it over on downs for the 43-10 win.
JJ Gonzalez finished with a season-high 20 completions for 192 yards. Andrew Simmons finished with a 74 yards rushing and 64 yards receiving for a team-high 135 all-purpose yards. Anthony Hugee and McCabe Piavis finished with seven tackles each. Kashantis Anderson had six tackles and two pass breakups.
Alvernia is back in action on the road next week at Lebanon Valley College.
