Skidmore Runs by Alvernia, 4-1

Saratoga Springs, NY (Nov. 29, 2025) - Skidmore College (3-3-1) jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back as the Thoroughbreds defeated Alvernia University (5-4), 4-1, on Saturday afternoon in the opening game of the Skidmore College Thanksgiving Invitational in Saratoga Springs, New York.

The Thoroughbreds got on the board just 1:41 into the contest, and took a 2-0 lead with 7:42 to play in the opening period. Skidmore did not stop there, making it a 3-0 game with 90 seconds to play in the first. After a scoreless second period, Alvernia got one back with just under 12 minutes to play in the third. But, Skidmore had the final say with a late third period goal for the 4-1 final.

Skidmore got on the board 1:41 into the contest on a goal by Bryan Tang and made it a 2-0 game on a putback goal by Theo Angelopoulos in the 13th minute. The Thoroughbreds made it a 3-0 game with 90 seconds to play in the opening period on a goal by Bryce Terry. 

The Golden Wolves were out-shot 16-6 by the Thoroughbreds in the second period, including six shots put in on a late Skidmore power-play. But, Alvernia's defense kept Skidmore from adding onto its lead as the game moved into the third with Skidmore leading, 3-0.

Alvernia broke through just over eight minutes into the third period as Leo Cabulis collected his own rebound and scored on a putback goal to put Alvernia on the board, 3-1. Alvernia could not get any closer as Skidmore's defense locked the Golden Wolves down and allowed them just four shots on goal the rest of the way. Skidmore added an insurance goal with under three minutes to play for the 4-1 final.

Skidmore out-shot Alvernia 44-29 on goal on the night and 69-54 overall. Skidmore also had 38 faceoff wins to Alvernia's 26.

Leo Cabulis led Alvernia with a goal and had a team-high 13 faceoff wins. Gabriel Flammia and Edvin Robertsson each finished with a team-high five shots on goal. Jack Terhaar had a team-high three blocks. Jeff Kreidler had 35 saves in just under 50 minutes of action. Jacob Stern came into goal for the final ten minutes, making five saves and allowing on goal.

Alvernia will take on the University of New England in the consolation game of the Skidmore Tournament on Sunday at 1:00 PM. UNE nearly completed a late comeback - scoring two goals in the 58th minute - but fell to Tufts, 3-2. Tufts will take on Skidmore following the Alvernia versus UNE game.
