Alvernia Blanks Lebanon Valley, Secures Spot in 2025 MAC Championship

Alvernia Records First Shutout Win in Program History

Hershey, Pa. (February 21, 2025) - Alvernia University (11-12-2, 9-10-2) closed out the regular season with a 7-0 win over Lebanon Valley College (6-17-1, 5-14-1), securing the final spot in the MAC Men's Ice Hockey Championship

Entering the game on Friday night, Alvernia needed a win in regulation, but the Golden Wolves also needed Stevenson University to defeat Arcadia University in regulation. The Golden Wolves left no doubt from the jump on their end, scoring three goals in the first period and never looking back. Stevenson and the Knights were a much closer contest. The Mustangs held a narrow 2-0 lead with a minute left, but Arcadia threatened to send the game to overtime with a goal with 30 seconds left to make it a 2-1 game. But, the Mustangs did not allow another shot as Stevenson earned the win and Alvernia earned the playoff berth.

With the win, Alvernia recorded its first shutout in program history.

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves got on the board in the 12th minute on a Frazer Dodd goal off the assist of Riley Egan, but Alvernia really broke it open four minutes later.
  • Vincent Servizzi made it a 2-0 game with four and a half minutes to play in the opening period, scoring off the assist of Patrick Del Vecchio. Then, just 18 seconds later, Servizzi found the back of the net again off the assist of Matthew Davies
  • The Golden Wolves and Dutchmen traded opportunities to end the period, but Alvernia took a 3-0 lead into the break. The Golden Wolves outshot the Dutchment 14-8 in the opening 20 minutes.
  • Alvernia then doubled up on its lead in the second period, and the Golden Wolves wasted no time getting its scoring started once again. Sawyer Senio scored on Alvernia first possession of the period, as Del Vecchio recorded his second assist of the night to give Alvernia the 4-0 lead.
  • Just over two minutes later, Christian Heckman got in on the scoring, finding the net on a putback goal off the initial shot of Brock Mueller to make it 5-0 three minutes into the period.
  • The Golden Wolves kept it rolling later in the period, and, after assisting on two goals, Del Vecchio got in on the scoring himself. After an initial shot by Senio, Del Vecchio got the bounce back and buried it in net to make it a 6-0 game with seven minutes to play in the second.
  • The Dutchmen put on three shots on goal in the remaining minutes of the second period, but Jacob Stern stopped all three for the Golden Wolves to send the game into the third with Alvernia leaving 7-0.
  • The Dutchmen made their second goalie change to open the third, but it didn't slow Alvernia down. Peter Lopes joined in on the scoring, firing in a shot just seconds after an Alvernia faceoff win, to make it a 7-0 game three minutes into the period.
  • Lebanon Valley never threatened the rest of the as Alvernia closed out the regular season with bang.
