Sparacio, Oberman Lead Golden Wolves Over Eagles, 14-3

Reading, Pa (February 22, 2025) - Alvernia University (1-0) grabbed an 8-1 lead at the half and then netted five more goals in the third period en route to a 14-3 victory over Juniata College (0-2) Saturday afternoon in a non-conference men's lacrosse matchup at Alvernia. 

James Sparacio led the way with four goals and an assist and Charles Oberman followed him with three goals and an assist as well. The Golden Wolves netted four goals in the first and second quarters and then posted five goals in the third to power themselves to the victory in their season opener. 

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves got things going in the first four minutes of the first period when Charles Oberman assisted Kenny Howley to put the Golden Wolves in the lead early on. 
  • The Eagles then tied the game up just over a minute later when Jacob Wallman scored an unassisted goal to make it a 1-1 game. 
  • Alvernia responded with three goals in the final eight minutes of the first quarter to take a 4-1 lead after the first 15 minutes of action. James Sparacio netted two of the three goals with Oberman scoring the other. Peter Capasso, Kyle Moats and Ethan McManus all recorded assists for the Golden Wolves.
  • Jack Keenan tallied back to back goals in the first ten minutes of the second quarter thanks to assists from Colin McFadyen and Sparacio to push the Golden Wolves lead to five, 6-1 with under five to go in the half. 
  • Sparacio and Oberman followed Keenan with goals just 17 seconds apart from each other to give the Golden Wolves an 8-1 lead heading into the half. 
  • Kyle Moats pushed the Alvernia lead to eight in the first two minutes of the second half after he netted an unassisted goal to make it 9-1. 
  • Oberman followed Moats two minutes later with his third of the game thanks to an assist from Zackary Moats and gave the Golden Wolves a 10-1 advantage. 
  • Juniata responded with two goals in 19 seconds to cut the Alvernia lead to 10-3 but the Golden Wolves bounced back with Sparacio netting his fourth of the day and McManus found the back of the net after a Keenan assist to push the lead back to nine, 12-3. 
  • Capasso then put the Golden Wolves up ten when he found the back of the net after connecting with Kyle Moats to push the lead to double digits, 13-3 heading into the fourth quarter. 
  • The Golden Wolves netted the only goal of the final quarter after McFayden assisted Zackary Moats to secure the 14-3 victory for the Golden Wolves. 

Inside the Box Score
  • First year James Sparacio led the way offensively for the Golden Wolves with five points off four goals and one assist and also picked up two ground balls. 
  • Charles Oberman followed with four points on three goals and an assist and picked up three ground balls. 
  • Jack Keenan and Kyle Moats both recorded three points with Keenan scoring two goals and recording one assist and Moats added two assists and a goal. 
  • Ethan McManus and Kenny Howley both netted goals for Alvernia and Peter Capasso and Zackary Moats both recorded a goal and an assist. 
  • Dane Sabarese recorded nine saves in net for the Golden Wolves and earned the win. 
  • Jack Mancha came on in the fourth quarter for the Golden Wolves and made three saves and did not allow a goal.
