Alvernia Falls to Penn College, 8-3

Reading, Pa (March 26, 2025) - Alvernia University (6-2) dropped a non-conference men's lacrosse matchup to Penn College (7-3) 8-3, Wednesday night after the Wildcats ripped off five goals in a row.

The Golden Wolves and the Wildcats were tied at two halfway through the first quarter but Penn College rattled off the next five goals of the game en route to the victory.

The loss puts an end to Alvernia's five game win streak, which marked the longest win streak in program history.

How it Happened
  • The Wildcats jumped out to the early lead in the first quarter after two goals in the first four minutes made it a 2-0 game.
  • The Golden Wolves bounced back with an unassisted Zackary Moats goal at the nine minute mark in the quarter to make it 2-1.
  • Alvernia leveled the score two minutes later when Jack Keenan found Peter Capasso who fired the ball into the back of the net and tied the game up at two.
  • Penn College put the ball into the back of the net in the final four minutes of the first quarter to take a 3-2 lead after the first 15 minutes.
  • The Wildcats tallied the only goal of the second quarter with under five to play in the half and gave Penn College a 4-2 advantage heading into the half.
  • Alvernia goalie Dane Sabarese did well to keep the Golden Wolves within two goals and recorded 13 saves in the first half alone.
  • Penn College then came out of the half and broke it open with three goals in the first ten minutes of the period to push the lead to five, 7-2.
  • Alvernia pulled one back toward the end of the quarter when Charles Oberman assisted Capasso for his second goal of the game and made it a 7-3 game after three quarters.
  • The Wildcats tacked on one more goal for insurance in the fourth quarter to secure the 8-3 victory over the Golden Wolves.
