Sabarese Breaks Career Saves Record in Setback

Wilkes-Barre, Pa (March 29, 2025) - Alvernia University (6-3) dropped its final non-conference game of the season to King's College (1-7) 14-6, Saturday afternoon in a men's lacrosse matchup at King's. 

Alvernia senior goalie Dane Sabarese recorded 18 saves and broke the career saves record. The record of 743 was previously held by Kevin Shupp, Sabarese currently has 752 career saves. 

How it Happened
  • King's jumped out to the early lead in the first ten minutes of the first quarter and netted the first four goals of the game to make it 4-0 early. 
  • The Golden Wolves grabbed one back in the final four minutes of the first quarter when Charles Oberman assisted Colin McFadyen to make it 4-1 after the first quarter. 
  • King's netted three of the four goals in the second quarter to extend the lead to five, 7-2 heading to the half. Tanner Caka scored the only goal for the Golden Wolves in the second quarter. 
  • The Monarchs pushed the lead to 9-2 after two goals in the opening five minutes of the second quarter to extend the advantage to seven. 
  • The Golden Wolves tacked two goals on in the final ten minutes of the third quarter after two goals from James Sparacio to make it 9-4. 
  • King's scored the final goal of the third quarter in the final five seconds of the quarter to make it a 10-4 game after three quarters. 
  • Peter Capasso netted a goal in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter thanks to an assist from Oberman to cut the deficit to five, 10-5. 
  • The Monarchs netted four of the final five goals of the game to secure the 14-6 victory over the Golden Wolves.
