Golden Wolves Sweep Pride

Reading, Pa (March 29, 2025) - Alvernia University (13-11, 2-4) tallied two wins against Widener University (7-14, 1-5) Saturday afternoon to secure the series sweep of the Pride in a MAC Commonwealth softball doubleheader down in Angelica Park. 

Alvernia senior Brooke Hauck tallied her 100th career hit with an RBI single in game one. Hauck became the third Alvernia Softball player to record their 100th career hit this season. 

The Golden Wolves took down the Pride 8-5, in game one of the doubleheader behind a six run first inning. Alvernia then bounced back and recorded a 3-1 victory over the Pride in game two behind a complete game, one run performance by Ashlyn Hillanbrand in the circle to secure the series sweep of the Pride.

How it Happened 

  • The Golden Wolves jumped out to an early lead after putting up six runs in the home half of the first inning. Brooke Hauck and Summer Montgomery both tallied RBI singles for the Golden Wolves and Montgomery later scored via a Widener wild pitch. Meryn Bellacime, Payton Splain and Alexia Fitzgerald all worked bases loaded walks to drive in runs for Alvernia as they took a 6-0 lead after the first inning. Hauck's RBI single in the first was also her 100th career hit. 
  • The Pride responded in the top half of the second inning with three runs thanks to a three RBI double to left by Taylor Bell to make it a 6-3 ballgame.
  • Alvernia tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the third inning after Mady Polonsky tallied an RBI groundout and Brooke Hauck smoked a RBI double into the right center gap to push the Alvernia lead to five, 8-3. 
  • Widener pulled two back in the fifth and sixth innings after an RBI double and an RBI single down the right field lines to pull within three, 8-5 heading to the top of the seventh. 
  • Kelsey Racine shut down the Pride in the top of the seventh 1,2,3 to secure the 8-5 victory in game one.

How it Happened 

  • The Golden Wolves got on the board first in the home half of the third thanks to a two RBI single off the bat of Summer Montgomery to put the Golden Wolves up 2-0. 
  • Widener bounced back in the top of the fourth after an RBI single down the right field line to cut the lead in half and make it a 2-1 game. 
  • The Golden Wolves executed a first and third steal in the bottom of the sixth to tack on an insurance run. Kalli Bunnell took off to steal second and baited a throw from the Widener catcher which then allowed Gianna Ordanoff to steal home and make it 3-1 Golden Wolves. 
  • Ashlyn Hillanbrand secured the complete game victory and shut the Pride down in the top of the seventh to secure the 3-1 win.
