Golden Wolves Fall to Scarlet Raptors, 11-5, in Non-Conference Action

Reading, Pa. (Apr. 15, 2025) - Alvernia University (20-12) fell to Rutgers-Camden (21-10), 11-5, in a non-conference baseball matchup on a windy Tuesday evening at Alvernia's Angelica Park.

The Scarlet Raptors held a 2-1 lead through the fifth inning until they used a three-run sixth and four-run fourth to take a 9-5 lead. The Golden Wolves got three runs back in the bottom half of the seventh, but could not get any closer. Rutgers added two more to its lead in the ninth for the 11-5 win.

How it Happened

  • After a scoreless first inning, Rutgers got on the board in the top of the second on a double to left center. But, Alvernia answered in its half of the second with Harold Ivery III scoring on a single up the middle by Quincy Esannason to even the game at 1-1.
  • Both sides went scoreless in the third and fourth innings, but Rutgers broke the 1-1 tie in the top of the fifth on an RBI single down the right field line. The Scarlet Raptors then added three more runs in the top of the sixth. Rutgers scored runs on back-to-back doubles to make it a 4-1 game, and then tacked on one more on an RBI single up the middle to take a 5-1 lead.
  • Alvernia got one run back in the bottom of the sixth on an RJ Emrich double to score Ivery and make it a 5-2 game going into the seventh.
  • The Scarlet Raptors took a 9-2 lead in the top of the seventh, scoring four runs on three hits.
  • The Golden Wolves answered back in the home half of the seventh. Alvernia loaded the bases on two walks and a hit-by-pitch. Ryan Buckley then cleared the bases on a one-out double to the left gap to make it a 9-5 game going into the eighth.
  • Alvernia threatened to tap into the Rutgers lead even further in the bottom of the eight with two on and one out, but the Scarlet Raptors got out of the jam to hold onto their four-run lead going into the ninth.
  • Rutgers-Camden added two runs to its lead in the top of the ninth. The Scarlet Raptors scored their first of the inning on an Alvernia error off a bunt, and added their second on an infield single later in the inning to take an 11-5 lead into the bottom of the ninth.
  • Alvernia got a runner in scoring position with two outs on the board when Timmy Hitchcock singled through the left side and then stole second. But, the Scarlet Raptors secured the 11-5 win on a strikeout to end the inning.
