Alvernia Splits MAC Commonwealth Doubleheader with Albright

Reading, Pa (April 19, 2025) - Alvernia University (22-13,14-4) split a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader with Albright College (16-18, 4-14) after a strong pitching performance in game two of the series. Albright went on to win game three of the series with a comeback in the bottom of the eighth to split the doubleheader this afternoon at Albright.

The Golden Wolves took a first inning lead in game one and never surrendered it. Nick Ferraioli led the way for the Alvernia pitching staff with six innings of work and only allowing three. The Lions took game three of the series after scoring four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to grab the 8-5 lead and secure the victory.

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves jumped out in front early, Nathan Seidel led the game off with a HBP followed up by a Jake Chapman bunt single.After an Albright error loaded the bases, Evan Thomas drove in the game's first run with a SAC lineout to right field. Timmy Hitchcock added another with an RBI single to left, scoring Chapman and giving the Golden Wolves a 2-0 lead.
  • Alvernia added on another in the top of the third. Logan Nelson got things started with a leadoff double to center field and after another RBI single to right field from Hitchcock.
  • Albright responded in the home half after a sacrifice fly to right field making it 3-1.
  • The Golden Wolves answered right away, Seidel stepped up and crushed his first collegiate home run to left field to make it 4-1.
  • The teams would continue to exchange runs, Albright responded with two runs of their own in the home half of the fourth with a two run home run to center field, leaving Alvernia with a 4-3 lead.
  • In the top of the fifth, Ryan Kopf delivered a sacrifice fly to center field to tack on one more for the Golden Wolves. 
  • Both teams would remain scoreless until the top of the seventh. After back to back singles to start the inning, a SAC bunt would advance the runners. Harold Ivery III stepped up and delivered a clutch 2 RBI single up the middle giving the Golden Wolves a 7-3 lead heading into the final frame.
  • Matt Mays would come in to retire the final three batters in order, after Nick Ferriaioli delivered six stellar innings to give Alvernia the 7-3 victory.

How it Happened 
  • The Golden Wolves took an early lead in game three of the series with a run in the third inning and four runs in the fourth to grab a 5-0 advantage. Nathan Seidel recorded a sacrifice fly to right field in the third inning to score Ryan Buckley and give the Golden Wolves a 1-0 lead. Christopher Babkowski then ripped a grand slam to center field to clear the bases and put Alvernia up 5-0.
  • Albright responded right away with four runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning to cut the Alvernia lead to just one, 5-4. 
  • Both the Golden Wolves and the Lions would go scoreless over the next three innings before the Lions recorded a four run eighth inning to grab the lead, 8-5 heading into the top of the ninth. 
  • The Golden Wolves could not get a run across in the top of the ninth as the Lions secured the 8-5 victory over the Golden Wolves.
