Offense Erupts to Lead Golden Wolves Past Aggies, 13-3

Doylestown, PA (April 23, 2025) - Alvernia University (23-13, 14-4) scattered 10 hits and saw four players record a multi-RBI game en route to a 13-3 non-conference win at Delaware Valley (3-31, 1-17) Wednesday afternoon.

Evan Thomas led the way and used his first career home run to power Alvernia's strong offensive showing. Grant Fitzgerald recorded the win on the mound, and the Golden Wolves bullpen only allowed one run across the game's final four innings.

How it Happened:
  • The Golden Wolves jumped out to an early lead in the second inning, erupting for seven runs. Jack Zabarsky got things going with a leadoff walk, later coming around to score on an RBI infield single from Joe Glass. After stealing second and advancing to third on a wild pitch, Glass scored on an RBI groundout to second base from RJ Emrich.
  • Alvernia continued to pile on five more runs with two outs later in the inning. Nathan Seidel added an RBI triple, and Harold Ivery III delivered a huge two strike, 2 RBI single to left center. Thomas then stepped up with a man on and crushed a fastball to deep left field giving the Golden Wolves a 7-0 advantage heading into the third inning.
  • The Aggies got their first run on the board in the home half of the fourth, thanks to an RBI single to left field.
  • Alvernia responded immediately. Thomas started the top of fifth with a double down the left field line, coming around to score after two Aggie wild pitches.
  • A Zabarsky single up the middle and a Timmy Hitchock double down the left field set the stage for Glass to deliver yet again - this time with a 2 RBI single to left field, giving the Golden Wolves a 10-1 advantage heading into the home half of the fifth.
  • Delaware Valley responded in the home half with an RBI groundout. The Aggies scratched one more across in the bottom of the sixth after a SAC fly cut the lead to seven.
  • Alvernia scored two more runs in the top of the seventh thanks to four walks and a HBP to put the Golden Wolves out in front, 12-3.
  • The Golden Wolves scored the game's final run in the top of the eighth after a HBP, walk, and Hitchcock single loaded the bases. Nicholas Pieramini stepped up and drove in Thomas with a SAC fly to center field giving Alvernia a 10 run lead heading into the games final frames.
  • James Wauters, Colin Ray, and Brody DeGroodt shut down the Aggies across the final three innings, allowing no baserunners.
