Golden Wolves Come Up Short to Blazers, 8-6

Frederick, Md. (Apr. 19, 2025) - A late Alvernia University (6-8, 0-5) push came up short as Hood College (10-3, 3-2) defeated the Golden Wolves 8-6 on Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth Men's Lacrosse action at Hood College.

The Golden Wolves trailed 6-3 entering the fourth quarter. Alvernia then scored two goals to open the fourth quarter and get within one, 6-5. Hood scored once again to push it back to a two goal differential, but Alvernia scored again with 2:34 to play to get back within one. The Blazers then scored an insurance goal with 1:44 to play and held off Alvernia the rest of the way for the 8-6 win.

How it Happened
  • The Blazers got on the board first with a goal just two and a half minutes into the game. Alvernia evened it at 1-1 with a goal from Zackary Moats with 9:26 to play in the opening quarter. Both teams went scoreless for nearly the remainder of the quarter until Colin McFadyen scored with two seconds on the clock off the assist of James Sparacio to give Alvernia the 2-1 lead going into the second.
  • The Blazers evened the game at 2-2 just over a minute into the second quarter. Both teams went scoreless for over 11 minutes until Hood broke the 2-2 tie with a goal with 2:14 to play in the half to take the 3-2 lead. The Blazers took that one goal lead into the half.
  • Hood pushed it to a 4-2 game in the opening minutes of the second half, but Alvernia got back within one on a goal from McFadyen off the assist of Jack Keenan with 11:22 to play in the quarter to make it a 4-3 game. The one goal differential did not last long as the Blazers scored the final two of the quarter to take a 6-3 lead into the final frame.
  • A goal from Jack Kenney off the faceoff opened the fourth quarter for Alvernia and brought the Golden Wolves within two. Ethan McManus then made it a one goal game, 6-5, off the feed of Kyle Moats with 7:53 to play.
  • The Blazers pushed it to a two goal game once again with a goal with just under five minutes to play in the game. But, Alvernia stayed in it and got back within one, 7-6, on McFadyen's third of the day with 2:34 to plays
  • The Blazers pushed it back to a two goal game less than a minute later. Hood then held off Alvernia the rest of the way for the 8-6 win.
