Golden Wolves Take Down #25 Giants,13-7, in Regular Season Finale

Reading, Pa (April 29, 2025) - Alvernia University (24-16) scored runs in five frames Tuesday evening en route to a 13-7 victory over #25 ranked Keystone College (28-9) in a non-conference baseball matchup down in Angelica Park.

The Golden Wolves jumped out to a three run lead in the second inning and never surrendered it as they tacked on ten more runs in the final seven frames to secure the 13-7 victory over the Giants. With the victory, the Golden Wolves snapped Keystone's seven game win streak.

Alvernia ends the regular season with a 24-16 overall record and it is the 34th season that Alvernia has recorded 20 or more wins with coach Yogi Lutz at the helm. Lutz has also led the Golden Wolves to yet another season over the .500 mark, the 36th in his 39 years.

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves got on the board first in the home half of the second inning with a three spot. Mike Pulcini started things off with an RBI double down the left field line that scored Timmy Hitchcock. Nathan Seidel then followed Pulcini with a two RBI double to center that gave the Golden Wolves the three run lead that they would never lose.
  • Alvernia tacked on a fourth run an inning later when Evan Thomas singled to left field and pushed Quincy Esannason to third, Thomas then baited a throw while taking second base that allowed Esannason to score and make it a 4-0 ballgame.
  • Keystone grabbed one back in the top half of the fourth when a single through the left side pushed a run across to make it a three run game, 4-1.
  • The Golden Wolves responded right away in the bottom half of the inning thanks to a Esannason two RBI single up the middle that scored Harold Ivery III and RJ Emrich to push the lead to five, 6-1.
  • The Giants made their move and pulled within one after two runs in the fifth and sixth innings to make it a 6-5 ballgame.
  • Yet again, Alvernia responded with a five run sixth inning and took its largest lead of the game, a six run, 11-5 advantage. Pulcini sparked things with a leadoff bomb into the Alvernia bullpen in left field, Thomas worked a bases loaded walk to push another run in and then Jack Zabarsky singled through the left side that allowed two more to score and made it a 10-5 game. Pulcini came back up at the end of the inning and worked a bases loaded walk to drive in his second RBI of the inning and put the Golden Wolves up 11-5.
  • Keystone grabbed one back in the seventh after a bases-loaded fielder's choice but Alvernia bounced back for a third time and pushed two more runs across in the home half of the inning to make it 13-6. Zabarsky tallied another RBI single through the left side and then Nicolas Piermarini recorded a sacrifice fly to center that was deep enough to score Logan Nelson
  • The Giants scored their last run of the ballgame after an RBI groundout in the eighth to make it 13-7.
  • Brad Coley came in for the Golden Wolves in the top of the ninth inning and struck out the first two batters before surrendering a two out walk. Coley then picked off Franza at first base to end the game and seal the regular season finale victory over the Giants, 13-7.
