How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves struck first in the top of the first inning after some classic small ball baseball. Quincy Esannason led off the game with a single up the middle, Jake Chapman and Logan Nelson both laid down great bunts to push Esannason over to third for the four hole hitter Evan Thomas. Thomas then singled to left to drive in Esannason and put the Golden Wolves up 1-0 early.
  • The Spartans grabbed the lead in the bottom of the second inning after a four run frame. An RBI double to right center tied the game at one and then a sacrifice fly and a bases loaded hit by pitch gave York a 3-1 lead. York's fourth run of the inning was scored after an Alvernia error to give the Spartans a 4-1 lead after two.
  • Alvernia pulled one back in the top of the fourth inning after Jack Zabarsky worked a two out walk, Timmy Hitchcock stepped up and laced a two out double into the left center alley that scored Zabarsky from first and cut the Spartan lead to two, 4-2.
  • York responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning after a two RBI triple to deep center field that scored two runs and made it a 6-2 ballgame.
  • The Spartans pushed it to a five run, 7-2 game in the bottom of the sixth inning after a wild pitch, but the Golden Wolves responded right away in the top of the seventh inning with three runs. After a Harold Ivery III leadoff walk and a Joe Glass pinch hit single, Mike Pulcini drove a ball to center for an RBI single to make it 7-3. Chapman recorded a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Glass before Nelson followed with an RBI single through the left side pulled the Golden Wolves within two, 7-5.
  • The Golden Wolves grabbed the lead in the top of the eighth inning after posting three runs in the inning to take the one run lead. All three runs Alvernia scored were with two down in the inning after Pulcini sparked things with a two RBI single to center that scored Hitchcock and Ivery III to level the game at seven. York then went back to the bullpen and brought in its closer but Chapman was all over him and ripped an RBI single to right that scored Pulcini and put the Golden Wolves up 8-7.
  • York continued to answer Alvernia and regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning with three runs and never let it go as the Spartans held on to secure the 10-8 victory over the Golden Wolves and advance to the MAC Commonwealth championship series.
