Cougars Power Past Golden Wolves, 41-10

Dallas, Pa. (Sep. 27, 2025) - Misericordia University (3-1, 3-0) used a 34-point first half to power past Alvernia University (0-4, 0-3) and take a 41-10 win over the Golden Wolves on Saturday afternoon in MAC football action at Misericordia.

The Golden Wolves scored a field goal on its opening drive, but the Cougars rolled from there. Misericordia scored 34 first half points and 41 straight points to take a 41-3 lead over Alvernia in the third quarter. The Golden Wolves scored late in the third frame to make it a 41-10 game, but could get nothing else going as Misericorida took the 41-10 win.

How it Happened
 
  • Misericordia won the coin toss but opted to differ, and the Golden Wolves got to work with a 22-yard return by Zakai Smullen. The Golden Wolves picked up an early first down on an 11-yard completion from JT Timmons to Treson Whitlow. Alvernia continued to work its way down the field and a personal foul on the Cougars put the Golden Wolves in the red zone. An 11-yard rush by Andrew Simmons put Alvernia on the Misericordia 7-yard line. But, the drive stalled out from there and Alvernia settled for a 21-yard field goal by Gage Thomas to take the 3-0 lead. The opening drive also took six and a half minutes off the clock.
  • The Cougars answered right back and drove down the field. A 35-yard completion from Jacob Hunter to Anthony Rucci with a facemask against the Golden Wolves tacked on put the Cougars in the red zone. Misericordia then punched it into the end zone on a 3-yard rush to take a 7-3 lead. 
  • Alvernia opened up its ensuing drive with a 21-yard completion from JJ Gonzalez to a wideopen Michael Williams, but the drive stalled out from there as Alvernia punted it away. Misericordia took it over on its own 38-yard line and opened the drive with a 49-yard completion from Hunter to Jacob Hoy. Two plays later, Misericordia found the end zone again on an 11-yard rush by Angelo Fluri to give the Cougars a 14-3 lead with under a minute left in the opening quarter.
  • Alvernia's next drive quickly went four and out and the Cougars blocked the punt and returned it for a touchdown. The PAT was missed, but Misericordia took the 20-3 lead in the opening seconds of the quarter. 
  • The Golden Wolves punted its next possession away and the Cougars put together another lengthy drive that was capped off by a 9-yard touchdown pass from Hunter to Rucci to give Misericordia the 27-3 lead. After another Alvernia punt, the Cougars regained possession with 1:52 to play in the half on their own 18-yard line. Misericordia went to 82 yards in just one minute, scoring on an 11-yard touchdown run to take a 34-3 lead into the half.
  • The Cougars put together a six minute drive to open the second half and continued to roll with a 12-yard touchdown pass from Hunter to Jordan Alston to give Misericordia the 41-3 lead with 8:30 to play in the third quarter.
  • The Golden Wolves answered on the ensuing drive. A 15-yard completion from Timmons to Williams got Alvernia's driving going. Alvernia then converted a 3rd and long on a 9-yard rush by Ozmere Jones. A 21-yard rush by Jayden Stanfield then put Alvernia down to the Misericordia 12-yard line. Two players later, Stanfield punched it in for an 8-yard rush to make it a 41-10 game with 1:40 to play in the third quarter.
  • While the Golden Wolves held Misericordia scoreless the rest of the way, the Golden Wolves could not get anymore going as they game ended in a 41-10 final.

Inside the Box Score
  • Alvernia rushed for 216 yards and were led by a 77-yard, one touchdown performance by Jayden Stanfield. Stanfield also led Alvernia's wide receiving corps with four receptions for 51 yards.
  • JT Timmons led a trio of quarterbacks with six completions for 89 yards.
  • McCabe Piavis finished with 10 tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble.

  • Alvernia is off next week for its bye-week. The Golden Wolves return to action on Saturday, October 11th with a Homecoming matchup against Albright.
