Trio of Golden Wolves Earn MAC Player of the Week Honors

Reading, Pa. (Jan. 13, 2026) - A trio of Alvernia student-athletes earned MAC Player of the Week honors for their performances during the week of January 5 - January 12, 2026.

Gabriel Flammia was named the MAC Men's Ice Hockey Offensive Player of the Week. Hayden McLellan was named the MAC Men's Wrestler of the Week, and Tayrn Woodson was named the MAC Commonwealth Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

Gabriel Flammia finished the week with four points off of a goal and three assists to help lead Alvernia to a weekend sweep of Misericordia. Flammia scored Alvernia's second goal of the game to ignite the scoring of four straight goals to help lead the Golden Wolves to a 5-3 comeback win over the Cougars on Friday. He also assisted on Alvernia's fifth and final goal of the game. In a 7-3 win over the Cougars on Saturday, Flammia assisted on Alvernia's third and fourth goals of the game. He also finished the weekend with four blocks.

Hayden McLellan went 4-0 at the Ursinus Manganaro Duals to lead Alvernia to a 3-1 day. In a 27-18 win over McDaniel, McLellan recorded his first fall of the day in 2:08. He then followed that with an 8-4 decision over #13 Gabe Monroe of the US Coast Guard Academy, who is ranked 17th in the country. In a 22-21 win for Alvernia over #25 Ursinus, McLellan recorded a 2-0 decision to pick up a crucial three points for Alvernia. McLellan rounded out his day with a fall in 2:04 to help lead Alvernia to a 27-13 win over Trinity.

Taryn Woodson finished a 2-0 week for Alvernia averaging 14 points and 12.5 rebounds. Woodson shot .632 from the floor on the week. She also finished eight blocks, which led her to hit 100 career blocks. In a 69-59 win over Widener on Wednesday, Woodson finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds. She shot 7-for-12 and finished with four blocks. In a 56-52 win for the Golden Wolves over Stevenson on Saturday, Woodson finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds. She shot .71 from the floor, going 5-for-7. She also finished with four blocks.

Women's Basketball is back in action on Wednesday at York College. Men's Ice Hockey is back in action at home on Friday hosting Arcadia. Men's Wrestling is at Messiah University on Saturday for the 2026 MAC Men's Wrestling Championship.
