Woodson Scores 1,000th as Alvernia Downs York, 62-57

Reading, Pa. (Feb. 4, 2026) - Taryn Woodson became the 15th player in Alvernia program history to score 1,000 career points as Alvernia University (10-10, 5-4) downed York College (6-14, 4-5) on Wednesday night, 62-57, in MAC Commonwealth Women's Basketball action at Alvernia's Jack McCloskey Court.

Woodson needed 15 points entering Wednesday night's contest, and she finished with exactly that to reach 1,000 points in her career. Woodson, who started her career at Eastern University, has 200 points on her senior season as a Golden Wolf on top of the 800 she scored at Eastern. Woodson is the third player under Alvernia Head Coach Rayne deMarteleire to score 1,000 points.

Woodson led Alvernia's contingent of double-digit scorers on the night with 15 points. Samantha Wade finished with 14 points and Jennah DeGout finished with 10 points.

With the win over York, Alvernia evened its season series with the Spartans.  The Golden Wolves improve to 10-10 on the season overall, and are 5-4 in MAC Commonwealth play with five games to play.

How it Happened
  • The Spartans took a 4-0 lead through the first minute before Alvernia evened it up at 4-4 with layups from Samantha Wade and Taryn Woodson. After another tie at 6-6, the Golden Wolves took their first lead of the game, 8-6. The Spartans answered though with a 3-pointer to take the lead right back, 9-8. Both teams were limited in scoring to close out the quarter, but Alvernia took a 10-9 lead into the second frame following a Meghan Ruth layup.
  • Alvernia's offense came to life to open the second quarter, out-scoring the lines 12-5 through the first five minutes of the half. Alvernia was led by Wade during the run, who accounted for six of Alvernia's 12 points as the Golden Wolves took a 22-14 lead.
  • York cut Alvernia's lead back down to six, 24-18, but, after an exchange of free throws, a putback layup by Alani White pushed Alvernia's lead back up to eight, 28-20, with 1:38 to go in the half. Alvernia got one more point off of a White free throw to take a 29-22 lead into the half. Woodson led Alvernia with ten first half points, and Wade tallied eight.
  • The Spartans came out of the break and rattled off the first eight points of the third quarter to take the lead, 30-29. Alvernia got on the board for the second half with a Wade 3-pointer, which sparked a 7-0 run as Alvernia retook the lead, 36-30, with 6:30 to play in the third frame.
  • The Spartans closed back within one in the final minutes of the third quarter. Alvernia gave itself some breathing room heading into the fourth quarter as Jennah DeGout knocked down a layup and followed it with a free throw in the final minute of action to make it a 47-43 game. But, the Spartans converted a late field goal to get within two, 47-45, going into the fourth quarter.
  • Alvernia then opened the fourth quarter with Woodson putting in a layup to mark her 1,000th career point and give Alvernia the four point advantage, 49-45. The Golden Wolves then built it up to a seven point game later in the quarter with Ryleigh Poole knocking down a 3-pointer to give Alvernia 56-49 advantage with seven minutes to play.
  • The Spartans responded to Alvernia's 3-pointer and shut the Golden Wolves down for nearly four and a half minutes. The Spartans put up eight straight to retake the lead, 57-56, with 2:52 to play.
  • Alvernia got back on the board and retook the lead with a putback layup by Jordyn Ingelido, and made it a four point game, 61-57, with a DeGout layup and and-one free throw with 90 seconds to play. Alvernia continued to hold York scoreless the rest of the way. Alvernia picked up one more point on a Grace Dobrzynski free throw to secure the 62-57 win.
