Late Goal Lifts Golden Wolves Past Knights, 2-1

Colmar, Pa. (Feb. 6, 2026) - Alvernia University (12-9, 10-7) scored a game-winner with 20 seconds remaining in regulation to down Arcadia University (7-11-3, 4-10-3), 2-1, on Friday night in MAC Men's Ice Hockey action.

Both sides went nearly 50 minutes without finding the back of the net. The Knights broke the 0-0 tie with 11 minutes to play in the third. Just a minute later, Alvernia evened the game at 1-1. The contest was poised to head to overtime, but Alvernia had other plans. The Knights took the all-or-nothing approach and went empty net with about two minutes to play. Arcadia held off Alvernia until there was 20 seconds left in regulation. Frazer Dodd sent a pass in to Nolan Kaizel and Kaizel ripped in a shot on the empty net to give Alvernia the 2-1 win.

The Golden Wolves dominated the opening frame, out-shooting the Knight 17-8 on goal in the first 20 minutes. The Golden Wolves had an early power-play in the first period, but could not convert. It would end up being the only power-play opportunity on either side for the entirety of the game.

The Golden Wolves outshot the Knights again in the second period, 18-12, but neither team was again able to find the back of the net.

The Golden Wolves and Knights exchanged two shots on net in the opening minutes of the third period, and it was the Knights who finally broke through just under nine minutes into the period. Alvernia needed little time to answer, with Will White equalizing the game at 1-1 off the assists of Joey Arnold and Anthony Piccininno.

The two sides again exchanged shots over the next six minutes, but both sides made stops to keep the game locked at 1-1.

With 1:43 remaining in regulation, Arcadia pulled its goalie to send six skaters on the attack. Peter Lopes made an early block and Connor Graham followed with a save before Alvernia took the puck down to its half of the ice. After both Leo Cabulis and Arnold had shots blocked, Alvernia found the empty net off the stick of Kazel and the assist of Dodd to take the 2-1 lead with 20 seconds to play. Alvernia did not allow another shot by the Knights in the final 20 seconds as the Golden Wolves took the 2-1 win.

Will White and Nolan Kazeil led Alvernia with a goal each. Jack Terhaar had a team-high four blocks, and Leo Cabulis led Alvernia with a 9-for-13 performance on the faceoff. Connor Graham picked up the win in net with 27 saves.

Alvernia is back in action tomorrow at home hosting Misericordia.
