Cougars Complete Comeback Win Over Golden Wolves, 12-11

Reading, Pa. (March 14, 2026) - Alvernia Women's Lacrosse (1-6) dropped a closely contested non-conference matchup to Misericordia University (4-2) on Saturday afternoon at Alvernia.

After an early back and forth, Alvernia built its lead up to 8-3 in the early minutes of the second quarter. But, the Cougars cut it within one, 8-7, going into the half. The Golden Wolves held onto their lead until Misericordia tied the game at 9-9 with six minutes to play in the third. Alvernia tied the game once more with 13 minutes to play and threatened to tie again late, but Misericordia held Alvernia off for the 12-11 win.

Misericordia got on the board first just a minute into the action before Alvernia answered and evened the game at 1-1 just over two minutes later on a player-up goal by Lindsay Kerchner. But, a minute and a half later Misericordia retook the lead at 2-1.

After a scoreless stretch, Alvernia evened the game up at 2-2 on a Hannah Tyler goal off the assist of Gracie Brower. Just over a minute later, a goal by Grace Weissenberger gave Alvernia the 3-2 lead. Alvernia kept it rolling to close out the goals by Kerchner and Makenna Thomas to give Alvernia the 5-2 lead going into the second quarter.

The Cougars got one back to open the third quarter and get back within two, 5-3. Alvernia answered with three goals in just 30 seconds from Weissenberger and a pair from Kerchner to give Alvernia the 8-3 lead with 11:16 to play in the quarter.

Misericordia got within four with seven minutes to play. The Cougars then took advantage of an Alvernia yellow card to score three goals in 90 seconds and get within one, 8-7, with 1:32 to play in the half. Alvernia then held the 8-7 lead going into the half.

Alvernia scored first coming out of the half on an unassisted goal by Mia Martin to give Alvernia a two goal advantage. But the Cougars scored the final three goals of the quarter to tie the game and take the lead, 10-9, heading into the fourth.

A goal by Ashley Mckeever tied the game at 10-10 in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, but the Cougars scored both a player-up and player-down goal over the next seven minutes to take a 12-10 lead with six minutes to play. 

The Golden Wolves had a two-player advantage in the final stretch, but Alvernia could not convert on the opportunity. Alvernia did threaten in the final minutes, getting within one with 14 seconds to play on a Gracie Brower goal. Alvernia won the ensuing draw, but could not get a shot off as the final horn sounded and Misericordia came away with the 12-11 win.


Lindsay Kerchner led Alvernia with four goals. Gracie Brower also put up four points on a goal and three assists. Gracie Weissenberger finished with two goals and one assist. In net, Addison Bolz finished with eight saves. She also had five ground balls. Makenna Thomas led Alvernia with nine draw control win.

Alvernia is back in action on Wednesday at Susquehanna.
