Dutchmen Sweep Golden Wolves

Reading, Pa. (March 25, 2026) - Lebanon Valley College (6-10) picked up a doubleheader sweep over Alvernia University (8-10) on Wednesday evening in non-conference softball action at Alvernia's Angelica Park.

The Dutchmen jumped out to early leads in both contests, and rode those leads the rest of the way. Lebanon Valley took game one, 8-3, and game two, 8-2.

In game one of the afternoon, the Dutchmen took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI double to right. They then made it a 5-0 game in the second inning on back to back RBI singles to right field and a triple to right; scoring four runs on five hits to take the 5-0 lead.

The Dutchmen kept it rolling in the third, making it a 6-0 game on an RBI single. Alvernia got two runs back in the bottom half of the third to get on the board. Alexia Fitzgerald led off the inning with a single to right and advanced to third during an error on the at bat of Lauren Jascewsky. Fitzgerald then scored on a Meryn Bellacima single to right, and Jascewsky came home on a sacrifice fly by Summer Montgomery to make it a 6-2 game.

Lebanon Valley pushed its lead back up to five, 7-2, on an RBI single to left in the top of the sixth, and made it an 8-2 game in the seventh on another RBI single to left. Alvernia got one more back in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Bellacima to score Fitzgerald. But, the Dutchmen came away with the 8-3 win to take game one.

In game two of the doubleheader, the Dutchmen took a 2-0 lead in the first on a two-run single through the right side. They doubled up on their lead in the second with a two-run double up the middle to take the early 4-0 lead. After a scoreless third inning, Lebanon Valley posted a three spot in the fourth; scoring two on a double down the left field line and taking a 7-0 lead on an RBI double down the left field line.

The Dutchmen pushed their lead up to eight, 8-0, in the top of the seventh on an RBI single to the left gap. Alvernia, who was held to just one hit up until the seventh inning, got two runs back in the home half of the seventh. Mikayla Eckman singled up the middle with one out and reached third base on a Lizzy Williams walk and a wild pitch. A single by Angelina Sponheimer drove both Eckman and Williams in. Sponheimer moved over to second on Kalli Bunnell single, but the Dutchmen forced a ground out to end the game and take the 8-2 win.

Alvernia is back in action on Saturday hosting Stevenson for a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader.
