Phyllis Gassert

Phyllis (Meals) Gassert, Assistant Coach

Phyllis (Meals) Gassert joined the Field Hockey team as an assistant in 2004. She will begin her 8th season with Alvernia. Prior to her time at Alvernia, Gassert was the head field hockey coach for two years at Central Catholic High School in Reading, PA.  She also assisted with pitching and outfield at Alvernia University for 4 years, University High in Morgantown WV, and a JO Team (Genesis).

Gassert played field hockey locally at Twin Valley High School.  At the collegiate level, Gassert played four years of Division I Field Hockey and Division II Softball for Davis and Elkins College.  She earned All-Tournament Team honors her Junior year and All-Conference NORPAC first team her senior year in field hockey. In softball her senior year she was named All-Conference WVIAC second team, and also received the Joe Carol Leadership in athletics award. Gassert earned a B.S. in Mathematics at Davis and Elkins and continued her education at West Virginia University receiving a second B.S. in Mechanical Engineering.  She and her husband, Dan, currently live in Muhlenberg.
