Reading, PA (Oct. 12, 2005) – Dickinson College scored once in the 40th minute and again in the 66th in a 2-0 win over Alvernia College Wednesday afternoon in non-conference men’s soccer action at Schlager Memorial Field.

            Six minutes prior to the half, junior reserve Carlyle Balfour (Montclair, NJ/Montclair) headed home his second goal of the season to opening the scoring assisted by freshman midfielder Tim Fauquier (Bethesda, MD/Winston Churchill).  Senior Scott Moses (Hanover, PA/Milton Academy) closed the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 66th minute.

            Alvernia had possession of the ball with a scoring opportunity a number of times in the first half, but could not generate any real threats on Dickinson keeper Lou Petriello (Harleysville, PA/Chestnut Hill), who made just one first-half save.  The best chance for the Crusaders (5-7-1) came early in the opening frame when sophomore Kyle Keller (Mount Penn, PA/Antietam) made a move past a defender at the top of the box, and ripped a shot just high and wide.

            The Crusaders mounted a more threatening offensive in the second half getting six shots on net, but Petriello was up to the test each time to record his first shutout of the season.  Alvernia keeper Richard Kessler (Reading, PA/Reading) made seven saves in 66 minutes before giving way to Matt Mowbray (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) who stopped the only shot he faced.

            Alvernia will return to the conference schedule for an important match this Saturday with preseason favorite Arcadia University, winners of three of the last four conference titles.
