Reading, PA (Oct. 18, 2005) – Junior Becky Macchione (Richland, PA/Conrad Weiser) pushed home a first-half rebound and senior goalie Carey Manzolillo (Bernville, PA/Governor Mifflin) made five saves as Alvernia College defeated Moravian College, 1-0, Tuesday afternoon in non-conference field hockey action at Alvernia.

            Macchione played a cross off the pads of Greyhound keeper Amanda Gaun (Hatboro, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) in the 21st minute of play then cashed in the rebound for her 19th goal of the season.  The Crusaders (12-3) missed on a few other first-half chances and settled for a 1-0 lead at the break.  Manzolillo, who recorded her 20th career shutout, made five saves in the second half to pick up the win.

            Alvernia will host DeSales University, another non-conference opponent, on Saturday at 1:00 before completing the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference schedule at Eastern University on Monday.  Alvernia is now 3-1 versus Moravian College.
