Alvernia Shoots 345 To Finish Fourth At Muhlenberg

McConnell Leads Crusaders With 83

Allentown, PA (Oct. 24, 2005) – Sophomore Doug McConnell (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) shot a 13-over 83 to lead Alvernia College to a 345 team total and fourth place out of eight teams Monday afternoon at the Muhlenberg College Fall Golf Invitational hosted by Lehigh Country Club.

            Freshman Will Tonking (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) shot 85 to bring his season average down to 86.8 in four rounds.  Freshmen Derek Stewart (Bernville, PA/Tulpehocken) and George VanHorn (Bernville, PA/The Hill School) rounded out Alvernia’s four scores with 86 and 91.

            Monday’s round closes the fall season for Alvernia.  Stewart played all but one of his seven rounds at the No. 1 position and averaged 79.3 with a low round of 75 at Bent Creek Country Club.  McConnell is second on the team with an 83.0 average followed by sophomore Steve Gerhart (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman) at 84.6.  Freshman Bill Heller (Stevens, PA/Cocalico) shot two rounds of 81 and 91 for an 86.0 season average followed by Tonking and senior Jeff Sadowski (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) at 87.2.  VanHorn rounds out the team averages at 88.7.
