Reading, PA (Oct. 1, 2005) – Senior goalie Carey Manzolilo (Bernville, PA/Governor Mifflin) made three saves and junior forward Megan Novogratz (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) scored unassisted in overtime to lead Alvernia College to a 2-1 win over FDU-Florham in non-conference field hockey action Saturday afternoon at Alvernia.

            Alvernia (8-3) tallied four shots during the opening half, but failed to score as FDU goalie Jamie SanFilippo (Roxbury, NJ/Roxbury) made two of her three saves to keep the game scoreless at the half.  Alvernia junior Becky Macchione (Richland, PA/Conrad Weiser) put the Crusaders up 1-0 with a goal just under two minutes into the second half, but the Crusaders defense was not as sharp in the second frame allowing the Devils (2-8) 10 second-half penalty corners and the game-tying goal in the 42nd minute.

            Manzolilo made all three of her saves in the second half to help force the extra period.  The Crusaders had the only two shots of the overtime period with Novogratz finding the back of the net with 6:31 left in the first overtime period.

            Alvernia will play the next three games on the road in conference starting with a 4:00 p.m. match-up with Gwynedd-Mercy on Tuesday.
