Alvernia Ice Hockey Squanders Early Leads in Weekend Debut

Reading, PA (Oct. 28, 2005) - The men's ice hockey club opened its 2005-2006 campaign with early leads but failed to cash in a victory.  The Friday night opener started promising as the Crusaders jumped on DeSales University early.

Playing a man short, Chris Pratt intercepted a misguided breakout pass in DeSales defensive zone and drove the slot uncontended to give Alvernia an early lead.  Unfortunately, shorthanded would be the major story line as the Crusaders spent the better half of the period killing off four penalties including a five on three situation.  The game remained tied early in the 3rd period when Billy Heller notched his 1st collegiate tally, giving what appeared to be an important insurance goal to the Crusaders.  However, this comfort zone was brief and DeSales capitalized on two power play opportunities, notching three unanswered goals. The 3-2 loss was disappointing but Alvernia gave an entertaining but sloppy effort.
