Six Quick Goals Boosts Alvernia To 8-1 Win Over Immaculata

Seven Different Crusaders Tally Goals In PAC Opener

Reading, PA (Sept. 10, 2005) – Junior Megan Novogratz (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) scored unassisted at the 5:13 mark igniting a string of six goals in a six minute span as Alvernia College handled Immaculata University, 8-1, in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference opener for both teams Saturday afternoon at Alvernia.

Junior Jessie Titus (Leesport, PA/Schuylkill Valley) ripped home a shot off a defender’s foot at 6:19, sophomore Lauren Yoder (Fleetwood, PA/Oley Valley) followed with a penalty stroke at 7:58, and three minutes later junior Becky Macchione (Richland, PA/Conrad Weiser) put Alvernia up 6-0 just 11:11 into the game.

Immaculata goalie Bridget Dougherty (Wyomissing, PA/Holy Name) made half of her 12 saves in the first half to keep the score 6-0 at halftime. The second half opened with nearly 30 minutes of scoreless play until Immaculata freshman Jenn Norris (Hockessin, DE/Ursuline Academy) spoiled the shutout with an unassisted goal at the 63:49 mark.

Alvernia tallied twice more in the 69th minute of play for the 8-1 final. All three goalies on the Alvernia roster played at least 20 minutes and needed just one save in the win. Alvernia will travel to Wesley College on Monday for a rematch of last year’s PAC Final, a 2-0 Wesley win.
