Alvernia Wins On The Road, 2-1 At Goucher

Fitzpatrick Makes Eight Saves In The Crusaders’ First Win

Towson, MD (Sept. 10, 2005) – Alvernia College scored a goal late in the first and early in the second half, and freshman goalie Danielle Fitzpatrick (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) recorded eight saves to preserve a 2-1 win over Goucher College Saturday afternoon in non-conference women’s soccer action.

            Sophomore striker Brandi Light (Myerstown, PA/Tulpehocken) scored her first goal of the season just over a minute before halftime assisted by Lisa Sothern (Philadelphia, PA/Cardinal Dougherty) to put the Crusaders (1-4) up 1-0.  Fitzpatrick made six of her eight saves in the first half and the Crusaders held a 1-0 lead at the break.

            Junior forward Kristina Bittner (Boothwyn, PA/Cardinal O’Hara) scored unassisted four minutes into the second half to put Alvernia up 2-0.  Goucher cut the lead in half on a Lindsay Sheaffer goal in the 70th minute, but could not get the equalizer as Alvernia picked up its first win of the season.

            The Crusaders return home for the conference opener against Gwynedd-Mercy College on Tuesday.
