Reading, PA (Sept. 13, 2005) – Junior goalie Katie Einsel (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) made 13 saves, most of them spectacular, and got a team save from junior defender Karen Hutton (Ridgewood, NJ/Eastern Christian), as Alvernia College played to a 0-0 tie with Gwynedd-Mercy College Tuesday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference women’s soccer action at Schlager Memorial Field.

            Einsel smothered four shots in the first half and Hutton cleared a ball off the line and off the crossbar midway through the opening frame.  The Griffins (2-1-1, 0-1-1 PAC) also had a goal disallowed on an offsides call in the opening 45 minutes.  Einsel continued her rock solid effort with five saves in the second half including a fingertip save of a ball destined to sneak under the crossbar.  One of the few shots that eluded Einsel, on a Griffin free kick, bounced harmlessly off the post and the score remained knotted into overtime.

            Gwynedd-Mercy held a clear advantage in scoring chances, outshooting Alvernia 27-4, but both goalies were up the task every time.  In addition to her 13 saves, Einsel was off her line on several occasions to snatch crosses and corner kicks, frustrating the Griffins’ offense.

            Alvernia will hit the road for a pair of conference games at Immaculata on Saturday and Eastern on Monday.  The next home game will be the following Saturday against Cedar Crest College at 1:00 p.m.
