Reading, PA (Sept. 17, 2005) – Alvernia College scored four goals in the opening 18 minutes and cruised to a 5-2 win over Marywood University Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference field hockey action at Alvernia.
Junior Jessie Titus (Leesport, PA/Schuylkill Valley) scored her fourth goal in the last five games just 2:11 into action. Classmate Megan Novogratz (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) followed with an unassisted goal at 8:53 and a second, assisted by Becky Macchione (Richland, PA/Conrad Weiser), at 15:38. Macchione scored her eighth goal of the season 2:20 later and the Crusaders (5-2, 4-0 PAC) enjoyed an early 4-0 lead.
Macchione tallied her second goal of the day just over a minute into the second frame to put Alvernia up 5-0. The Pacers (0-8, 0-4) got on the board a few minutes later when Caity Madzimichalis scored an unassisted goal, and Carly Savastano scored the final goal of the day for the Pacers with just over 13 minutes left to play.
Once again, all three Alvernia keepers saw time and made three total saves in the win. The Crusaders will travel to Cabrini College on Tuesday for a PAC match-up with the Cavaliers.
